Post Packer World XI - a discussion

50+ need not be a watertight arrangement. Viv's inclusion is perfectly reasonable.
Look, bagapath's been running these polls for ages. He usually chooses a benchmark that's low enough so that the obvious candidates get in, then trusts the forum to filter out the chaff. Has worked very well so far.

What is the record of Hadlee in the countries where the wickets and not supportive to fast bowlers like subcontinent. Hadlee always preferred to play where wickets were supporting to the fast bowlers. Don't merely look at his record. Compare his record outside New Zealand, Australia, England and West Indies. He always made lame excuses when it came to play in subcontinent. Never say that Hadlee is everyone's favourite. At least those who have seen him and noticed his lame excuses will never rate him high.
In the subcontinent Hadlee averaged 21.58, slightly better than what he averaged at home 22.96
Harry Harrison, now is the time to give up mate.

It should be no contest with Richards, Lara and Tendulkar in the middle order with Chappell and Ponting available as a token gesture.
I would argue for Ponting over Richards, but the other two are shoe-ins IMO.

Viv would be my 4th in line though.

Ooh. That sounds patronising.

I was only suggesting. And I think my suggestion was not entirely without value.

After this i think we should chose a pre packer 11 and see how both teams match up.

Maybe a Post War/Pre Packer XI as that would make it a similar number of years and remove the obvious Bradman and Hobbs from the equation and make it more interesting.

I understand Bradman but y Hobbs? Dont see him to be that significantly better than the likes of Hutton, Gavaskar, Sutcliffe etc.

he means hobbs is an obvious in the pre-war XI. assuming him to make to an all time XI above gavaskar and hutton and sutcliffe is also valid. considering he was a master of wickets on which 30+ avg was considered good. sutcliff joined him post WW 1 and was much slower. hobbs should be a 90% certainty. but anyway lillian thomson meant for us to go for a post WW2 - pre packer XI.

The No.6 poll is open now.

http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/cricket-chat/41616-no-6-post-packer-xi.html

The middle order poll is not yet over but Sachin, Lara and Richards have unassailable leads over Ponting and Chappell. The last two are also given as options at No.6.

the opening bowlers poll is ending today. We have one clear winner in MArshall. But hadlee and mcgrath are tied till now. They both will join Murali and the top runner up all rounder from no.6 poll for the last two bowling slots.

So now you'll have two bowling all-rounders and no batting all-rounder? It's not really making any sense to me.
