One swallow hardly makes a summer, both Clarke and Haddin (in particular) have poor techniques against the moving ball, hence no way they should be considered as long term opening options, though won't disagree that they are the best available combo as the makeshift opening pair atm.
AWTA except I think that Hopes would still service the team better from the opening position. Bat Haddin at 4 and the side looks stronger. Drop White for a specialist bowler - it's not like his batting would be missed - and we'd have a strong team.

BARNES OUT
Im anxiously awaiting apologies from various members for the harsh harsh words directed at me when I suggested some time ago that Haddin open the batting. And also for suggested Pup open up as well. You know who you are. Thank you. lol
If you think Haddin and Clarke is a serious long term option for Australia then you're deluded.

This game was like the good ol' days of Australian ODIs from a few years back, set a massive score that we can barley defend, despite taking early wickets, eventually getting over the line (though often we didn't). Good times.

In other news, great to see Siddle in. Get rid of White and bump Hopes up a spot. (And if I had my way, swap Hilfenhaus for McGain).

I'd rather Noffke in for these games TBH. He's deserved a spot with 117 FC wickets at 22 since the 2006/07 season. Would give Noffke some deserved recognision.

And what's he done in one day cricket? Bugger all. To be fair, he hasn't actually played a lot of it recently, but his career OD domestic record is pretty damn poor and it's not like he's been breaking FRC records in the past couple of seasons.

Anyway, go and search posts made by vic_orthdox containing "Noffke" for an explanation of why he's not in the reckoning. If you've read them and you're still surprised by his omission every time a squad is named then you're beyond help.

Has been back for a few games now I think.
But he's not playing the next Shield match for Qld, only the one-dayers, so he can't be 100% surely? I think Queensland are still going for the final.

It's not that I don't think he shouldn't have played at some point in the past, he's been really unlucky. I just don't think they should turn to someone in the middle of injury problems. I don't think it was a good idea with Tait either.

I seriouly doubt White would be dropped, Ferguson or Hilfenhaus might get axed to make place for Siddle, but i doubt the Aussies would drop a batsman at all,so there are more chances of Hilfy getting dropped.

Btw, the most refreshing thing for me in today's game was the way Mussey and Ferg batted, loved their partnership and the kind of freedom with which they batted.

Yeah, I've been one of his biggest advocates and if you look at an XI I posted yesterday I had him in it I think, but he's been out for a while and Siddle just took 4/27 against Tassie (all top order wickets as well).

Agree with this - and when Watson is fit again, he comes in as a straight swap for Hopes and it looks even better. Only thing is Haddin might need to be at five if Clarke goes back to 4, once Marsh is fit and Dussey goes out.

Come to that, I'm not sure why you'd drop White before you'd drop Dussey.

So ideally:
Marsh
Hopes (til Watson is back)
Ponting
Clarke
Haddin
M. Hussey
White/D.Hussey/Ferguson
Johnson
Bracken
Siddle/Hilfy (til Lee is fit)
Tait

Symonds is the other factor - assuming he ever makes it back/is fit to play. Not a bad team, esp. once Lee and Watson come back in.

I am perfectly well aware of why he hasn't been picked.

Doesn't mean he hasn't deserved it though.

And selectors have been known to pick players with good FC records for ODIs to give them international experience.

Roy's pain is Bulls gain - FOX SPORTS - Fox Sports

All-rounder Ashley Noffke has been named in the Bulls one-day squad but has been rested from their next Sheffield Shield clash against South Australia starting in Adelaide next Friday.

Scans have cleared Noffke of serious injury after the all-rounder struggled in his first Shield game back from a lengthy back complaint earlier this week against Western Australia.

But Bulls selectors have opted to rest Noffke from the Shield game due to their busy schedule ahead.

White has been terrible all summer while Dussey has merely been poor.

Seems strange that they would do that if he's fully fit. Still, we'll have a strong team with Symonds and Noffke in.

I think the only problem is, given the kind of outing both Clarke and Haddin have had now as openers, it would be very hard for the team-management to demote them in the batting order, especially for someone like Hopes.

So i guess until Marsh and Watson make a comeback, they are pretty much going to be the makeshift openers.

White is 6, 7? years younger than David and has done enough to show that he's got the potential to be a long term part of the team. They just need to stop making him bowl.

David Hussey has unfortunately this summer done all he can to show he'll always be Dannii to Mike's Kylie...

Yeah, but why bring him up now when the squad's been named? It's like you actually looked at the squad and thought "What? No Noffke?!?!" which would be, at best, stupid, if you knew why he hasn't been getting picked before. His situation hasn't changed, so he's not going to get a game.

I think he deserves a chance as well but if we have to have the same discussion every time the selectors name a team he isn't in, it's going to get a bit tiresome. In fact, it already is. I think it's time we accept he isn't going to play and move on.
