In terms of effectiveness, Panesar's better without a doubt. He's done it before. Broad hasn't.

Plus, our best answer to McGrath (Flintoff) is a hell of a lot closer to world class than our best answer to Warne. So the team would gain more from Warne's inclusion than McGrath's.

This just ilustrates the problem with a 5 man attack. There just are not enough overs. You always have bowlers underutilized and twiddling their thumbs.

You always have he 5th bowler bowling who by definition isnt as good and takes overs away from the better bowlers.

5 bowlers are to many for 28-30 over sessions.

Not sure that McGrath > Warne, but I was thinking about it in terms of what it would add to the England team. If it's in a vacuum, the answer may be different.
