OZ fc cricket is played on roads so discount the figures
I've heard this so many times, and while I think it is rubbish, McDonald would fall into the team as an all-rounder as his bowling average, in theory, would drop by about 10, making him probably the best bowler in NZ...

Exactly!

You can't have it both ways...

Either his batting is better than almost any of their batsmen, or his 29 boiwling average gets "seasonally adjusted" to become a lethal 22-23 in NZ standards...

AND: if the Oz pitches are such roads, then how good does his 29 first class bowling average look anyway?

I know - let's bag him out because he has red hair? There's got to be some crazy reason to hate the guy doesn't there?

Aussie domestic cricket isn't played on the roads international cricket is.

And McDonald would comfortably make the NZL international team providing Oram is injured which has been fairly often as of late.

Any of the other Aussie posters on here listen to Talkin' Sport of an afternoon? I only managed to catch the last hour of the show yesterday, but it was quite irritating listening to every other caller, and then the hosts themselves calling this squad a 13 man squad!! Can people not count anymore?

Hauritz is going over as team physio.

You didn't really think they picked him as a player did you?

That said, Adelaide is usually still pretty flat. Same with the WACA though it's been pretty green this season in Perth.
This is true and bowling averages have inflated accordingly (don't think any of the SA bowlers averages less than 40 this year). I don't think the MCG has had much spice this year either, has it? Still, I think the perception is that playing a fair few of their games in Brisbane and Sydney respectively, that Noffer and Bracken have cashed-in. Still skilled bowlers I reckon although I've never thought much of Noffers when the pitch isn't doing much.

Come on. Gilchrist batted 7 for the entirity of his career because of such a dominant and rarely changed, besides retirement, middle order.
Yes. But that was mainly due to the strenght of the top 6 during his time wasn't it?. He was incapable of batting in the top 7.

If he was playing right now in his peak form of (PAK 99 - NZ 2005). He would surely bat @ 6 with Watson @ 7.

Stewart was a backstop.
Hell no. Stewart wasn't in the same breath as a Healy, Knott. But he very solid every time he had the gloves for England.

and Sangakarra has become solely a batsman in test cricket because of his workload.
Yes & how does this devalue my initial point?

You then lump Haddin in with blokes who, to me, are recognised as great keepers, not all so much keeper/batsmen.
I wasn't refering to their respective glovework.

The group of keepers that i linked Haddin with, are players that are good batsmen who don't have the complete repotoire as batsmen to bat above # 7.

Haddin is definitely the latter, I am not saying he is Gilchrist or Sangakarra and he hasn't been brillient in tests thus far (but really, if he was 6 years younger, he'd be hailed as the next best thing just on test performances thus far).
Thats a hypothetical theory of great wishful thinking. 6 years ago in 2003 Haddin's batting was nowhere near the ability it has been since around 2005/2006 i'd say.

6 years, Jimmy Maher was the back-up ODI keeper & Wade Seccombe the preffered test option.

I don't think you can use Haddin's test career as a marker as yet as it is in its true infancy. But if you knew ANYTHING about shield cricket, you'd realise your bolded statement is an absolute crock of ****.

LOL, wtf. Is this some kind of punching bag argument you guys are going to use againts me now..

VERY Good move by the selectors to pick Hughes instead of Jaques. However I still don't think AUS should go to SA; they will be murderer by Ntini, Steyn & co on those fast wickets...

I think the selectors should have picked Bracken too as we need the best bowlers at the moment and he's #1 ODI bowler. What's wrong? He can do short spells like Lee!

Yeah, let's just not go - when they come looking for us, we'll turn off the lights and hide behind the couch...

New Zealand batsmen in first class cricket:

Tim McIntosh: 4257 runs avg 35.18
Jamie How: 4159 runs avg 33.27
Daniel Flynn: 1816 runs avg 33.62
Ross Taylor; 3374 runs, avg 36.67
Jesse Ryder: 2909 runs, avg 42.77
Brendan McCullum: 4325 runs, avg 33.26

Andrew McDonald 2067 runs, avg 37.58

Oh he's good enough for you - good enough to get picked as one of your top 6 batsman with ease - even if he doesn't bowl.
Bull****. Different country, different conditions.
We have Oram, and Oram>McDonald, hence we don't need him.

He's not good enough to make it as a batsman or a bowler alone, and we don't need another allrounder as we already have Vettori and Oram.

He doesn't fit in the side!

I'm sick of people saying **** like "he will fit into the NZ side easy".
It can never happen, so why speculate and rubbish another countries side?

****en stupid, get over yourselves.
