Road to IPL 2009.

Looks like Modi's pretty pissed, can't take people rejecting him.
Really can't blame him, it not great for him to take his name out at the last moment, CSK were all but ready to acquire his services, and other franchises might have also made their plans keeping him in mind, but now they would to make changes to their plans at such a late stage.

There are many successful middle order ODI players who revel in taking singles and doubles, yet end up with a SR of above 80-85. Clarke's career SR is 78 and for the last 13 months is a measly 60. And he has failed to elevate his stroke play when required in many ODIs during this period. Whatever be the reason, Clarke is no more anywhere near the top 20 best ODI batsmen in the world, leave alone T20. There is absolutely no logic in franchises quoting for such humoungous prices, unless Mallya did it thinking he can get Clarke's fiancee to participate in his calendar shoots.
That's what you think, but rest of the world doesn't think like you!!

JP Duminy, Dave Warner, Ishant Sharma, Rohit Sharma are pretty good examples imo.
They are not even comparable among themselves. Warner proved to be a joke at the International level after two Afridi esque innings, so far. Ishant was hyped up, but is still value considering he's improved over the last year, and has marketing value.

No, all sane cricket followers think that way. Clarke is no more the ODI player he used to be and has been utter crap over the last one year.
Well why does it bother you so much, you are not the one who has to give away those US $ 1m, if the franchise are giving that much money to a player they obviously have some faith in his ability, if he doesn't perform then obviously his stocks would come down.

Correction : No IPL franchise has bid for him yet.

Secondly, the whole question about "you are not paying" is laughable. IPL is a product and all those who watch it are its consumers, and this being a cricket forum, I've a right to vent my frustration at such irrational prices paid to a player who is not worthy of it.

1. He needs the money, otherwise why he would have allowed himself to be enrolled in the first place.

2. However his pricing was terrible. I don't know who determines base prices, but if Clarke had any say in it, he overestimated his worth in T20s.
If he "needed the money",why wouldnt he simply enter the auction

Best case, a million bucks

Worst case, big, fat retainer for zero work

Sorry, but your dislike for Clarke is overriding the obvious explanation

Exactly. Why he entered the auction in the first place?

He knows the truth. He is not valued at the base prices quoted, and it was unlikely that he'd be bid for at all. So he wisely withdrew.

Dont think you get it

Clarke would get paid a substantial amount even if not sold

Given that he has withdrawn his nomination, it's obvious that he simply doesnt want to play in this year's event

Clarke never actually committed to playing the IPL. The whole time he and his manager toed the line, never actually saying that he'd play.

Whatever the reasons, this constant flip flop on Clarke's part doesn't speak well of him as a person. He's acting like a teenage girl who can't decide which dreamboy she'd rather took her to the prom.

Not that I want to get into it, but I don't think it does, I think he genuinely wasn't sure. I mean, if anything, his commitment to play using the one bounce rule in Test matches is what reflects badly on him.

It's probably a mixture of both really. He'd rather take time off from cricket and not go, but he would only go if he got a shedload of money as he's quite well off already, he realised that it might not happen so he thought it wasn't worth it and pulled out.

Haha, that's something I've not seen spoken about him for quite a while.
