Road to IPL 2009.

Yusuf Abdulla at $25,000 could be worth a punt. He has a career economy rate at less than 6 runs an over, bowls a good yorker and can swing the ball miles at pace. Though his fitness would be a concern (his a fat boy) and the IPL is a tough calendar. He is shocking in the field as well.

Good to see Jerome Taylor also on the list, he would be a good signing. Tremendous 20/20 bowler.

Is he in with sniff to play for South Africa anytime soon?

Still not about the playing ability and about the marketing TBH.
Yeah IPL is more about marketing and being able to make your franchise a hit among the fans, having bigger stars in your team helps with that, KKR is a very good example of this tbh.

They were pretty poor in the IPL last time around, but still because their marketing tactics and star-power was so strong, that they still managed to make a good profit out of last season.

Don't think so. His weight is a real problem and he is one of the worst fielders going.

His South African emerging coaches, Kepler Wessels and Shafiek Abrahams (also a national selector) said that they would love to have Abdulla in the fold but not whilst his carrying this much weight.

I think a lot of people are disappointed with him for his got some ability. Anyone who can swing the ball both ways at good pace is always going to be a handful but his not taken up the reasonability of improving his game. Lonwabo Tsotsobe was told eighteen months ago that he would never play for South Africa unless he worked on his fitness, improved his pace and learnt how to catch and credit to him his done it. Abdulla hasn't.

Indeed, all that potential that one sees in Test and ODI cricket realises itself in T20 cricket when he starts bowling up to 150kph, highly slippery deliveries.

Has a good slower ball as well. His got a lot of his test wickets recently with it.

Interesting, that has to be the best T20 bowling record I've ever seen.

****. How can Albie be in reserve?

Hussey's most probably going to be away on national duty, so Morkel and Flintoff could both play. Drop Tyagi or Balaji and get someone like Vidyut in.

Gony, Balaji and Tyagi is a pretty weak attack, tbh.

Albie will be playing in the ODI series between Aus and South Africa and that is after the test series between the two sides. So both players will be unavailable till the end of April.

Lol, then Chennai had better buy a couple of bowlers. Their team last year was like the India of the 90s. Stacked with batsmen, but no bowling attack to speak of.

How did Michael Hill survive the cut?

He can't get a game for his state. Is it because of his big hitting in the Sixes comp?

Bizarre IMO.

It's a lot better than last year's initial combination of Gony, Amarnath and Joginder. With Flintoff and Murali leading the attack, it's a decently strong attack. Given that their strength is batting, it's a decent combination.

I rate Tyagi pretty highly and Gony has plenty of upside so has justification of being persisted with.

Bala probably could sit out for an import.

Vidyut isn't too useful. In fact, Chennai's reserve local batting resources (except Mukund) are no good, and they'll need their frontline batsmen for their starting XI, while the likes of Tyagi and Balaji are good picks in the bowling unit with at least two powerful names.
