Haha. If you hit the ball, it's not a wide, irrespective of how wide it actually is.
Bingo.

If you are able to hit the ball then it can not be wide as the purpose of calling a wide is so that bowlers can not bowl the ball so wide that the batsmen can not hit it.

Hehe, it's more enjoyable than the cricket at the moment, ITBT.

Lovely work by the spinners, getting through the overs so quickly.

If Australia lose, it'll be funny.

But it must be said, if NZ lose from here too, it'll also be funny.

8. Out from a Wide
When Wide ball has been called, neither batsman shall be out under any of the Laws except 33 (Handled the ball), 35 (Hit wicket), 37 (Obstructing the field), 38 (Run out) or 39 (Stumped).

The fact that Hussey hit it is irrelevant

If the ball has been called a wide, as that should have been, then quite simply, you cannot be out caught and it has happened in international cricket before (Akram vs Oz I believe a few years ago)

The fact that it doesnt make a lot of sense is pretty irrelevant

2. Delivery not a Wide
The umpire shall not adjudge a delivery as being a Wide
(a) if the striker, by moving,
either (i) causes the ball to pass wide of him, as defined in 1(b) above
or (ii) brings the ball sufficiently within his reach to be able to hit it with his bat by means of a normal cricket stroke.

(b) if the ball touches the striker's bat or person.

If a batsman has hit the ball, how the hell can it be wide? Can you perhaps get the rule up for a normal wide please?

EDIT Damn you Faaip

Way to pick and choose your laws, Social. You really are making a cretarded argument here.

Law 8 is about the wickets

Law 25 - WIDE BALL

Paragraph 2. The umpire shall not adjudge a delivery as being a wide if [...]
(b) the ball touches the striker's bat or person

Do you know anything about this game?

:wallbash:

No-one's saying he can get out off a wide. We're saying that it can't be a wide if he's deemed to have hit the ball.

It feels allot hotter today in Perth that it does when it is over 40c, the humidity is sapping, might be affecting the Aussie players brains with the running between the wickets. Or alternatively they want to get back inside to the air conditioning.
