Nice.
Yeah that might be true, but to just write off this debacle of a performance saying that, hey you know what, come the world cup, Aussies are gonna be back to their best, because that's all they are really concerned about, but that's not how it works...TBF, it's kinda true. Aus don't really care about ODIs unless they're WC. You hardly see any pressure for the ODI team to win like the Test team. Lose a ODI series...no one cares. Lose 1 test, everyone cares.
This is the problem.Atm though Australian cricket is in a wobbly state, albeit because of injuries to key players and big retirements, but still even with the team Australia had for this series they should have won this series, but they have got drubbed instead.
Yeah they should have won at Hobart and made it 5-0.Yeah that might be true, but to just write off this debacle of a performance saying that, hey you know what, come the world cup, Aussies are gonna be back to their best, because that's all they are really concerned about, but that's not how it works...
All the ODI's leading into the world cup are just an opportunity for every team to work on their ODI game, and develop a team by the next world cup, that they think would be good enough to do well in the tournament.

This is only the second time in Australian cricket history that they have lost 4 games in an ODI bilateral series, and that goes onto show that despite all problems this has been a shocking performances and there shouldn't be any excuses for this.
South Africa have played well and they deserve credit for that, but still they were far from extraordinary and they definitely didn't play that well for Australia to get beaten 4-1 in the ODI series.
I hate comments like that.We had three close games that could of went ether way.Saying they deserved 5-0 is like me saying we could of got 3-2.lets leave it at that please.[/B]

I was responding to a post where Australia apparently has a divine right to win everything.I hate comments like that.We had three close games that could of went ether way.Saying they deserved 5-0 is like me saying we could of got 3-2.lets leave it at that please.
Not many of the South African fans, not even the South African team were giving themselves much of chance in the ODI games, and its not like they blew Australia away either. This is the problem.
Ok fair enough.I was responding to a post where Australia apparently has a divine right to win everything.
I watched the series and the first three games were really close, so close that I wrote them off in two and backed them in the game they lost.
This was what I was getting at too.I was responding to a post where Australia apparently has a divine right to win everything.
So happy, was chatting to a guy in the club last night and we came to the conclusion that this is as great as SA sport can ever get in one time, being Rugby WC champions and best in the world at one day cricket. Those two will probably never happen at the same time again. Such a great vibe here surrounding cricket and might be in Jo'burg to welcome the guys home, I hope they party very hard.. To do it with such a young team, from all backgrounds (seeing as thats still so important for some reason) is testament to a great crowd.. A lot of things have been said that I won't repeat, but two things have stood out for me personally.
1. Johan Botha - A cricketer with almost zero profile, and with no fanfare has just captained us to a huge win.. I think the guy should be celebrated a bit more
2. Our attitude - It obviously helps when you win, but we've played dignified cricket, with a smile as well.. We haven't been sucked into the aggro, pressure, mind games and chat of previous tours and I think that has paid huge dividends.. With no Warne or McGrath to start the conversation, we've just gone out and played some top cricket.. Never thought the Aussie public would warm to our cricket team in a million years but it appears they have.. All bodes well for the return series, so amped..
If Australia beat NZ, they return to the number 1 spot I think.. I remember SA had a time at 1 in the test game a few years ago that people thought was undeserved, if Australia return to 1 in the ODI rankings, would that be a fair reflection or not?[/QUOTE]
Is it fair that SA call themselves "world champs" in rugby despite being the 3rd best team in the southern hemisphere?
I think SA can rightfully claim number 1 in Tests but not in ODIs, especially not beating a full strength Australian side. IMO they have to win the world cup or some tournament of note to get that undisputed status. So happy, was chatting to a guy in the club last night and we came to the conclusion that this is as great as SA sport can ever get in one time, being Rugby WC champions and best in the world at one day cricket. And it was less than a year ago that they were flogged by the EnglishI think SA can rightfully claim number 1 in Tests but not in ODIs, especially not beating a full strength Australian side. IMO they have to win the world cup or some tournament of note to get that undisputed status.
Yeah, if we win in SA it'll turn everything on its head. And it was less than a year ago that they were flogged by the English
The reality is that there is no undisputed no.1 in tests or odis and is unlikely to be for a long time
Despite me being one of the most optimistic Aussie fans around, that's seems like a pretty tall order atm, given all the important players who would be missing from the Australian team for the series.Yeah, if we win in SA it'll turn everything on its head.
Don't think I said they would...Despite me being one of the most optimistic Aussie fans around, that's seems like a pretty tall order atm, given all the important players who would be missing from the Australian team for the series.
If the guys can turn the tide in South Africa then it would be pretty much an upset, though i think the Aussie ODI unit would perform much better there then what they did here, but surely if they can win the test series too, then that would turn things around for sure.
No you didn't say that, but just that even contemplating that as a possibility atm is pretty unrealistic.Don't think I said they would...
So they do care about winning other series? So they cared about the CT, but didn't care about losing the #1 spot in ODI?Compare their preparation for the last CT with their lack thereof for previous editions - it was obvious that they actually targetted that tourney (like a WC) whereas before they hadnt

If Australia win in SA, there will be no clear #1, but if SA win, they'd be pretty undisputed at the #1 spot, easily, for mine.Yeah, if we win in SA it'll turn everything on its head.
