Still remain to be convinced that you've actually got any basis beyond pre-existing bias to label CA as being clueless - which is not to say that they haven't made a least a couple of mistakes in handling the situation. But I'll stop asking for that...
Regardless of how they've got here, they've now put themselves and Symonds in a position where they've put him on notice that he has to observe the standards of behaviour outlined to him as one of their employees or face sanction. He has obviously not met those standards on this occasion, and if they don't apply that sanction, they lose credibility and risk damaging the long-term attitude and stability of the team.
As for them not caring about team ethos and that sort of thing - they've got a bunch of professional coaches and sports managers who are madly into that sort of thing, so I'd say that they're highly interested in that sort of consideration. And saying that whether player A is better than player B is the sole consideration for selection is clearly rubbish when you look at the selection records of players like Katich and Hodge.
