Cricket Team Draft - ODI edition

Yeah, genuine allrounders are exceedingly rare, and hence the first ones you want to grab in a draft like this. Dhoni merits a place both as a keeper and as a specialist batsman.

What surprised me was Aravinda De Silva picked ahead of Pietersen, Ponting, Kluesner, etc.

Hmm, starting to run out of quality options now. First pick will be Martin Crowe, not a prolific batsman but will slot in at 3 nicely behind two world class openers.

Second pick has to be Javagal Srinath, over 300 wicktes at a shade over 28 is about as good as anybody left, along with the fact he basically led Indias pace bowling department for a decade makes him one of the best options left IMO.

Some really interesting choices in here.

But FMD, Dhoni straight off the bat is baffling.

One of the best ODI batsmen currently around, and arguably the best finisher of an innings since Bevan.

Chuck in the fact that he's a good wicketkeeper and it's not suprising.

What a champion. His average of 39 and Strike Rate over 80 at the time he played was brilliant.

I didn't realise how good Dhoni's ODI average is. I guess I was influenced by him being severely over rated as a test player.

I'd still take Gilchrist though. Will be interesting to see who are deemed to be the best however many ODI keepers.

Obviously too late now but it comes back to having too many people in it. Should have been 10 or 12 max.

It's not like they can't pick at all. As soon as they log on next, they choose, like what has been done so far.

I propose we make it 12 hours.

imo should stay at 24 hours but everyone just try and make a bigger effort to check this more often.

Definitely. But once Gilchrist, Dhoni, Boucher, Flower etc are gone, there aren't many more standouts from what I have seen.

Looking at this thread, I'd have picked Gilchrist straight up, because he is a genuine top order batsman, which would theoretically allow for an extra all rounder or at least decent middle order player, which should be easier to come by.

I've already lost pretty much all interest in this draft given how slowly its running. All for a 12 hour limit - you'd be pretty unlucky for the 12 hours to exactly coincide with when you're not on, and even if it did, it would mean you slipped one spot before you next came on, given we seem to be managing one pick every 36 hours at the moment.
