Hurry up I gotta go to bed and if you dont pick soon I wont be able to for about 12 hours.

Terry Alderman

Quite possibly the worst ODI batsman ever. Not only does he have a remarkable batting average of 2.66 at a strike rate of 33, but even that was probably inflated by his feat of remaining not out in 30% of his innings.

Luckily, his excellent bowling record makes up for it

Team so far:

Gary Kirsten (LHB, 185 ODIs, 6798 runs @ 40.95, 10% no, sr 72.04)
*
Kevin Pietersen (RHB, 87 ODIs, 3047 runs @ 48.36, 19% no, sr 87.58)
Greg Chappell (RHB, 74 ODIs, 2331 runs @ 40.18, 20% no, sr 75.70, RM, 72 wickets @ 29.12, er 4.04, sr 43.1, 7 opm)
Mahendra Singh Dhoni + (RHB, 125 ODIs, 3935 runs @ 46.84, 25% no, sr 90.89, 125 catches and 40 stumpings)
*
*
*
*
Andy Roberts (RHB, 56 ODIs, 231 runs @ 10.04, 16% no, sr 64.70, RF, 87 wickets @ 20.35, er 3.40, sr 35.8, 9.2 opm)
Terry Alderman (RHB, 65 ODIs, 32 runs @ 2.66, 30% no, sr 32.98, RFM, 88 wickets @ 23.36, er 3.65, sr 38.3, 8.64 opm)

Whoever took Bruce Reid before might be in a position to claim that 'worst batsman ever' title... :)

I just checked. Reid averages a whole 1.1 runs more than Alderman, and his strike rate is a whole 7 points better too. Lets face it, Reid is merely a second rung player when it comes to #11's.

Nick Knight for me, averages over 40, strike rate in the mid seventies. Probably means Junior Waugh will bat 3 or 4 now.

Team so far
1 Nick Knight
2
3 Mark Waugh
4

6
7
8 Imran Khan
9 Wasim Akram
10 Shane Warne
11 Darren Gough

pskov

International 12th Man
Farveez Maharoof

Averages 20 with the bat and 24 with the ball over 80 matches. Will be a good first change bowler and ideal at 7 or 8 in the batting line up.

Greame Smith
Brian Lara
Zaheer Abbas
Kumar Sangakkara
Farveez Maharoof
Joel Garner

Weldone to pick next.

Courtney Walsh

227 wickets and a really long career makes him easily the best option among the fast bowlers available to me now by far (thanks to those who chose Shaun Tait and the likes before me). A West Indian pace bowling giant (even literally), Walsh was almost as great a bowler as his long-time partner Ambrose in both forms of the game. Together they made one of the best fast bowling pairs in the history of the game, and certainly one of the very best of the 90s (alongwith Wasim-Waqar) which may arguably be regarded as the golden age of fast bowling. Playing most of his matches in the 90s when batsmen really started to take the attack to the bowlers, his economy rate of 3.83 is nothing short of astonishing. And guess what, the two of them will open the bowling in my team too!

Team so far:

Desmond Haynes
Javed Miandad
Chris Cairns
Curtly Ambrose
Courtney Walsh
Muttiah Muralitharan

International Debutant
Dhoni averages higher than Tendulkar, Ponting and Lara in ODIs and is also a Wicket Keeper. He averages over 10 runs more than Gilchrist. Absolute monster of the ODI. Not surprising.
