Sorry to be lazy and not find this out myself, but where are the non-Albie Morkel new-ball options, like Ntini etc?

They also have Ntini, Tsotsobe and Parnell in the squad. The last two are inexperienced and Ntini's meant to be out of their plans for the next WC so I suspect they're looking at other options. They also said that they will be rotating they quicks.

jeez, won't Ntini only be like 33 by then, plus he's super-fit?

Opening with Hussey is fucing dumb.

Thank **** Bevan never did ok opening in state cricket or we may have seen the best ever middle order ODI batsman opening as well.

Is this an over-reaction to what was probably an experimental move? Perhaps they wanted him to gain a psychological advantage over Steyn in the tests by smashing him. Obviously backfired but nothing wrong with the odd improvisation or unorthodox move.

Please be careful with your wording...

Hussey's average has dropped by 2 after that innings, could drop further if he continues to open.

This is going to be Ponting's day.

That looked very out!

Ponting let off again. Incredible.

Not a great debut for van Jaarsveld either.
Not sure why he is playing, South Africa don't need batsman coming in at 7, they need bowlers. Looks like JP will have to turn his arm over.

Ntini has been getting pasted around in limited overs cricket. SA does look light on for bowling but it's their poor fielding which is costing them. They used to be a superb fielding team. Wonder what's happened, they used to have fast, athletic types running around.

SA's tour is really turning bad, just like the English one. Will the lynching mobs be at the airport when they return? I know how much their fans love this form of the game, they won't be pleased. They obviously lack the depth to replace the likes of Ntini and Smith. Albie Morkel is atrocious.

Albie Morkel is a fair way short of being an ODI opening bowler, but even given that and the fact that he has terrible figures, I actually thought he bowled okay today.

I suppose that emphasises the point though - when you bowl well and still go for sevens without the batsmen taking too many risks, you're not up to the job. Even so though, to call his "atrocious" based on four overs when he's primarily a batsman is a bit harsh.
