Pick imo, he has a couple days to pick, surely 24 wont make a difference. Though he needs the 24 hours before being replaced tbf.

8.07 Brian Statham

The less fiery, if more accurate partner to Fred, Brian Statham goes down in history as one of England's greatest bowlers, battling into the wind, never the star of the English team, but always one of the key parts of their success, Statham was the ultimate bowler, and one of the greatest men of English cricket, seldom chose to bowl a bouncer, unless he was persuaded to by the captain, and seldom spoke a stern word to anyone. And if his 250+ Test wickets at less than 25 weren't enough, he also took 2260 First-class wickets at 16.37!

I hadn't planned to take a fourth seam bowler at this point in the draft, but when I saw that Brian Statham was still avaliable, all thoughts of a batsman went out of the window.

Team so far:

Saeed Anwar
Geoffrey Boycott
Ricky Ponting
Ken Barrington
Malcolm Marshall
Joel Garner
Brian Statham
Allan Donald

Jakester is up...

Nearly took Statham instead of Simpson, I need a third seamer. But I needed an opener more. It's getting harder rather than easier to prioritize..

Jakester1288

International Regular
David Boon

Read toss us with him and someone else, I am taking him because he can bat 3 or open the innings, just the player I need. Right now he is opening, where he averaged 48.41, but if I get the other person for next round, he may or may not shuffle around.

1. Sid Barnes
2. David Boon
3.
4. Brian Lara
5. Michael Hussey
6.
7. Richard Hadlee
8. Richie Benaud
9. Ian Healy
10. Daniel Vettori
11.

I need 1 more quick, then a couple of middle order bats.

Was a toss up between Statham and Bedsar last round for me. My side is lacking a Lancashire player, though I guess Murali counts. No NSW players either.

EDIT: Clive Lloyld played for Lancashire as well. Just need a NSW player and we will be sweet. Though the way the draft going it might be toss up between an extra Sri Lankan and a NSW player.

Jamee are you still going Somerset's picks?

He hasn't logged on since the 5th of Jan.
I've got Somerset's picks. He was supposed to be back by now, but I guess I can put in his selection (if any of his players are still available). Let me check, and I'll get back to you.

Looks to me like Somerset picks Jeff Thomson

Leaving him with:

Mike Proctor
Charlie (Charles) Macartney
Andy Flower (wk)
Everton Weekes
George Headley
Ian Botham
Shane Warne
Jeff Thomson

Over to me to pick...

Picking one of my favourite batsmen of all time. He may not be statistically top of the league, but he's an all-time great for me. Gordon Greenidge

1. Graeme Smith LHB, Ave = 50.71, ROS - 8 wkts @ 100.12
2. Gordon Greenidge RHB, Ave = 44.72
3. (Kanhai may bat here, given he had most success at #3, depending on the final line up
4. Graeme Pollock LHB, Ave = 60.97, LBG - 4 wkts @ 51.00
5. Rohan Kanhai (wk) RHB, Ave = 47.53
6.
7.
8. Peter Pollock RHB, Ave = 21.67, RHF - 116 wkts @ 24.18
9. Johnny Wardle LHB, Ave = 19.78, SLA - 102 wkts @ 20.39
10. Curtly Ambrose LHB, Ave = 12.40, RHF - 405 wkts @ 20.99
11. Frank Tyson RHB, Ave = 10.95, RHF - 76 wkts @ 18.56

id say over 7500 at around 45 is statistically pretty good for an opener, Greenidge was probably going to be my second choice for a second opener if he lasted that long.

Certainly for the era, for sure. Still Graeme Smith or Matty Hayden (for example) are statistically speaking "greater batsmen", but I'd rate Greenidge more highly at this stage (Smith could overtake him)

Devo was going to Greenidge this round, my favorite opener of all time. He really was the prime example of West Indies batsmen that era. A lot of aggression but some brillant technqiues to go with that aggression. Don't know who to go for now. Well I know one pick, but not the second.

Hopefully NUFAN and GI Joe make their picks soon. Didn't expect to pick until mid week before today.
