Tests simply /= ODIs. You wouldn't open with McCullum and Ryder in tests, you wouldn't play O'Brien and Martin in ODIs.

Flynn seems to be a test no.3 prospect but shouldn't be near the ODI team, just as the reverse holds true for Elliot
That sums up perfectly what I've been trying to say with all these posts of mine.

Good stuff mate
O'Brien and Martin both deserve a shot at the 3rd seamers role. In fact after O'Brien's day today he surely can't be far off the team.

As for Flynn he was superb for ND at 3 last season in OD cricket and has shown a lot of potential (remember that potential thing we knocked so heavily on Flynn before he came good in Tests? Yeah now its the same for One Dayers). I'd rather a specialist number 3 than an opener pushed down to that position.

Apparently Guptill is being put at number 3, which is strange. As I'd think Ryder would make a great number 3.

Yeah but Napier should be a high scoring affair for sure.

Have New Zealand managed to come up with a competitive XI yet? Seems like Guptill is a class above mediocrity, unlike the other pack of sheep in the side. Sinclair LOL!!!! I doubt he'd get a game in a local Under 12's side.

Yeah Sinclair's on par with Hopes in mediocrity,

Yeah, Broom should definitely play ahead of Flynn if the spot available is at 5 or 6. If Flynn has to play, McCullum (or maybe even Ryder?) needs to move down the order.
I swear we can almost give you New Zealand citizenship

After his early worries guptill was sensational. He showed 3 factors which make a fantastic one day innings. Solid(ish) at the top, accumulating through the middle, hitting out at the end. The recent future now looks bleak for Jimmy How as unless Marty has a pretty big fall from grace he will take Hows test spot.
I thought that today, wouldn't be surprised if How gets dropped for the India series.

Do you mean James Hopes? Funnily, he's probably acheived more than him and he barely gets selected in the Australian team.
Sinclair's hardly a stayer in the Black Caps though is he?

That dickhead is about a Pluto in the Black Caps solar system (yes not even a planet anymore, just a little cold ball of nothing on the outside).

Sri Lanka will be ******* without Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Vaas, and Murali. You worry about your selves and we will do the same. Unless these ***** that come in heere and slag off the NZ every time, **** off, your not offering anything usefull. Yeah we're not Australia or South Africa, but it is getting tiresome TSTL.

Guys - please don't take matters into your own matters. Report the offending posts and let a moderator deal with it.

These sort of members want to cause problems and get attention and the best way is to just ignore them and let a moderator handle it.

I've posted before about trolling, in this very thread and it looks like we're going to have to go through it again. We're not going to have a situation were good posters leave because some trolls want to get a kick out of baiting their supporters. If it continues, people will get banned, it's that simple. A particular shout out goes to sammy2 and MendisNuffSaid, do it again and you're gone.

Completely agree. Why shift our first genuine opener in a long while to 3? Ryder I feel is much more dangerous when he is not looking to force the issue and just plays his natural game rather than try to hit every ball for 6.

Also if Flynn does not bat at 3, there is no place for him in ODIs.

So what is the goss on Orams exact fitness? Will he be available and how much can he bowl?

Athlai, you leave Sinclair alone. How many test 200s do you have again? :p

Besides, on ICC he just smashed England around the park with Taylor and got 222* and recovered us from 155/5 to 587, so fact is Sinclaiir rulz boi. :p

Unfortunately, I agree. His game just isn't suited to batting any lower.

It's a shame, his fielding has really impressed me this series and is an asset to the ODI team but he's not providing the runs.

Yep, though if he fails there, bye. I'd hate to see a decent test prospect go to waste by playing him in a format he just hasn't adjusted to at the top level.

Anyway, my XI for Napier assuming Oram can play a full role:

McCullum
Guptill
Ryder
Taylor
Broom (soz Flynn)
Oram
Grant Elliott the great
Vettori
Mills
Southee
Patel

I'd be interested in O'Brien having one last ODI chance, not sure its his thing though. Chris Martin in ODIs=no way. At least Mark Gillespie was good for a few ODIs.

damit, flem274^. get elliot out of there. he offers nothing and is too old. there are already enough bowlers in your proposed side. whilst flynn has struggled in the ODIs to date, he is going to be in the team long term i feel, so there is no use in dropping him. his time will come. flynn at 5, broom 6, oram 7, elliot can get the **** out of there

time to realize that Elliott is actualy a good player methinks.

Seriously, Elliott can be put in with O'Brien as a guy who gets unfairly abused. What does he have to do, average 100 with the bat and 5 with the ball?
