Cricket team draft

You'd be better off taking any opener with a 40+ avg. rather than making Lara open. Lara at 4 is your batting trump.

Was thinking of Arthur Morris actually, 7 Tests as an opener 41 in the middle order.
I didn't point this out earlier today cause he was my next selection, but he actually played almost all of his matches opening, 45 out of 48.

He just didn't face the first ball of the innings much, which is a shame for him as he did better when facing the first ball.

Tough one. Tossing up a few openers and a couple of remaining star all-rounders.

Finally, I've decided on Graeme Smith. He may not be one of the all-time greats yet, but when he makes centuries, he makes BIG scores and finding an opener with that kind of record is pretty damn hard.

1. Graeme Smith LHB, Ave = 50.71, ROS - 8 wkts @ 100.12
2.
3. (Kanhai may bat here, given he had most success at #3, depending on the final line up
4. Graeme Pollock LHB, Ave = 60.97, LBG - 4 wkts @ 51.00
5. Rohan Kanhai (wk) RHB, Ave = 47.53
6.
7.
8. Peter Pollock RHB, Ave = 21.67, RHF - 116 wkts @ 24.18
9. Johnny Wardle LHB, Ave = 19.78, SLA - 102 wkts @ 20.39
10. Curtly Ambrose LHB, Ave = 12.40, RHF - 405 wkts @ 20.99
11. Frank Tyson RHB, Ave = 10.95, RHF - 76 wkts @ 18.56

Statistically Heath is building probably the strongest team for mine, will be very strong in whatever sim we do, however I cant see him winning the peoples vote.

I was literally 50-50 between Smith and Boycott...

EDIT: And he was going to be my captain, too...

Pah. It sounds like you think I've been surfing StatsGuru, sorting by average and picking the top player not already picked.

I only picked Wardle in that manner, looking for a decent spinning option!! ;)

Oh, Somerset has e-mailed me his list, but it's on my hotmail, and I'm at school, so...

I think he gave it to someone else, too.

Somerset selects Charlie McCartney, who played 35 Tests between 1907 and 1926. Does this make him eligible, or is it only players who played entirely before WW1 who are ineligible?

EDIT: Jakester is up.

hmm not sure, he played 21 of those 35 tests pre WW1 but he was a far better player in those last 14 tests where he scored 6 of his 7 test centuries. Not sure what to make of this one.

Perfectly eligible, just as Hobbs is. As long as someone played a test post WWI then they are fine to be selected.

Wondered when someone would select him. Perfectly eligible under the rules. From everything I've read, he sounds like the Viv Richards of his day.

I needed an opener and this is the guy for the job. He can bat from 1 to 6. In 13 test matches he scored 1072 runs @ 63.05 with 3 centuries, and in FC cricket he scored 8333 runs @ 54.11.

He is a fantastic back-to-the-wall type player, averaging 81.37 when losing the toss, and 94 in the 4th innings.

My team:
1. Sid Barnes
2.
3.
4. Brian Lara
5.
6.
7. Richard Hadlee
8. Richie Benaud
9. Ian Healy
10. Daniel Vettori
11.

I want one good quick and 1 more solid middle order bat, and I have 2 players in mind. One is almost sure to be taken before my next go though, so things are not looking good for me, especially with such a long tail.

Thought you were going to go an all rounder in this round? Probably a good decision to go for an opener though tbh.
