I'm sick of Australia trying out these half-decent allrounders.

It seems to me that we are only selecting batting all-rounders, i believe we need a change and pick a bowling all-rounder.

We need someone who can bat at 6 or 7 reasonably well, but their main focus is bowling. We've proved by now we can score runs, just not take wickets.

A good example of a bowling all-rounder is Flintoff. If we can have someone like him in the team who can open the bowling and what not, instead of Symonds, McDonald, Watson and co, we will have more success, instead of picking all-rounders that will score runs, just not get the wickets.

Ponting is just dire. Same old, same old brute force method, the specialists are tiring and he just keeps them going letting the batsmen get into a rhythm. Same type of captaincy with Warne and McGrath in the team. Definitely should bring some part timers on (not Hussey), a spinner like Katich or Clarke to break it up a bit.

Can Johnson be almost considered a bowling all-rounder? I still have no idea why they bowl short and wide to him, instead on or around off stump, where he really struggles.

Lee and Johnson (and even Hauritz) are effectively playing like bowling all-rounders, though. Wouldn't be totally nuts to bat Johnson at 7 and slot in a Bracken or a Hilf.

I worry, though, about Haddin at 6. Hasn't really had consistent form yet - for all we know, this is his peak.

In any case, are there any ostensible bowling all-rounders making a case atm? Seems a bit fatuous to blood a total neophyte in Tests for team balance's sake.

If he keeps batting the way he has been he could be classified soon enough as that, at the moment he's just a bowler that can bat ok.

While that's true about Lee, Johnson and Hauritz, i don't consider any of them Bowling all-rounders just due to the fact they can't be relied onto score runs every innings.

I don't actually know to be honest if there are any real bowling all-rounders in the domestic ranks at the moment, don't follow it closely to be honest.

But your absolutely right about Haddin, he'll get there eventually, but batting at 6 is a massive risk.

Great partnership

Partnership is now 100+.

 at the inability of both teams to get tail out in this series.

A doubt, will this go in the books as 6th wicket or 7th wicket partnership? Considering Smith's injured, SA are clearly 6 down even though scorecard says 5 down.

Looks like Australia conceding another commanding position from my seat.

Desperately lacking a bit of mongrel this series!
