look at it this way, you will be able to spend more time around the course, "cover" it more thoroughly than a better golfer...
Mate, played yesterday, and if there's a more spectacular course I'd love to see it.

Great weather 12 holes, then pissed down with a howling wind as well, but we just kept going it was so good. An amazing experience. Anyone in NZ must play there - unbelieveable.

so what will happen in 2009? will tiger be stronger than ever? now that sergio has supplanted mickelson at no:2, will he finally land a major and challenge tiger?

Well, we still have no idea how Tiger will recover, they say it's going better then expected, but they would say that, sponsorship money and the massive financial investment in team Tiger, does make you wonder if it's smoke and mirrors.

Sergio may finally be ready to step up, yet I'm still backing the likes of Kim, Villegas and Sterne to be the young guns to become the main challengers. They seem nerveless, which can't ever be said about Garcia. You can hardly forget Padraig either, spectacularly vindicated in just concentrating on the majors, like Faldo before him.

the point is tiger was injured since the last few events in 2007 and the severity just kept on increasing until the '08 u.s open where he effectively played on one leg and won! so if he can win 7-8 tournaments while injured, even a slightly better physical condition might see even better results...

i agree in general about the challengers...kim, villegas, garcia, harrington, don't know much about sterne...am very happy that mickelson is no longer no: 2, i kind of agree with steve williams...:)

Inaugural cricket club golf day last Friday at Cumberland GC (72).

4 person Amrose event. 62 off the bat with a handicap of 10 and 5/8. A lovely net 51 and 3/8 to win it by 2/8ths of a shot.

The guys who cam second and shot 10 under 9 birdies and an eagle) on the back nine were none impressed.

So Rory Mcilroy, the next Tiger?

He certainly looks fairly iompressive, and apart from Woods I can't think of anyone that comes close at his age. Consistent and now a winner.

I'm only really posting here because at the moment I've managed to back the top 4 in the Buick classic, if only 'twere Sunday afternoon.

Haha, probably not...but he's a very good young player. Saw him at Huntingdale in Dec 2007 and he was impressive. Very simple approach to the game.

Just to rub it in to fellow golf lovers here, having a hit at Cape Kidnappers on Friday. Here's some pics Looks fantastic. Shame I'm a **** golfer.

Great looking course...I've heard Barnbougle in Tassie is a cracker and we played a few on the peninsula in Melbourne that were impressive too (The Open course at Moonah Links is great, and Cape Schank's good value).

Yeah, Barnbougle is absolutely fantastic mate. Try to get there if you can - it's only $80 and it's public access. A great challenge. Pay an extra $60 odd for a caddie -shavewd at least a dozen shots off my round I reckon.I've heard they're building another one next to it called the Lost Farm Links. If it's half as good it will still be world class.

So whatsisface has announced his comeback date:

Timesonline, an interesting choice, because if he wins each round he'll have to play 5 rounds I think.

Still, I have to say, without him, the edge does seem to be missing watching golf. Odd really, because he'll retire one day.

Oh and saw this on the same site, I think golf misses him too, but for vastly different reasons Wild Thing.

There'll be other reasons to watch golf though when he's gone mate. Someone else might come through and take his place, although it's more likely that it'll be interesting just because there is more competition for top spot.

 why so grumpy grecian?
Hmm, England's cricketing performance might have something to do with it:)

Yeah, your right, I'm old enough to remember BW (before Woods), I loved the faldo-norman duels, and can even remember some of watson-nicklaus. The point with those duels, I think, was all the best were playing, it's been utterly anaemic without him. I like Harrington as well, and have followed him for ages, so it's a shame his last two majors should have an asterix next to them. You are right that someone or someones will replace, but at the moment it seems like everything is on hold.

My mood is probably melancholic because sport is pissing me off ATM, see my answer to Anils question.....

I watched the Faldo - Norman duels too, but didn't see much of Watson-Nicklaus...I hated Faldo

At the moment it does seem a bit like every tournament he would have played in should have an asterix next to it as if he's playing you know a guy's earned it if he wins. When he retires though it'll be a great duel between two players or more that will catch people's interest again.

I loved Faldo, but being an English golf fan, that probably doesn't surprise you. Preferred him before he got Leadbettered though, had a lovely flowing swing, with a certain amount of charisma. He then turned into robo-golfer, I suppose the 6 majors probably proved he was correct to do this.

Another guy who I loved and tried to replicate the swing of was Freddie Couples, nice to see him challenging at the Northern Trust. I do like that about golf, the continuity. Others may think of it as a weakness to see old guys competing, but I enjoy it. I actually think I did my back trying to replicate Freddies swing, I wouldn't advise any young person to do it......
