I heard somewhere he's very front foot orientated, which works here but not overseas, though he did ton up in SA. If he added some back foot play he'd be a ripper.

So, can he bat at five for NZ like he does for Wellington? :p

Wellington > Blackcaps IMO
Yeah and CD>Wellington :p

Actualy, last years Wellington and this years CD could each probably be test sides (lower level ones, but hey:cool: )

CD

How
Ingram
Sinclair
Taylor
Hay
Oram
Griggs
Thompson
Schaw
Mason
Sherlock

With Weston and Patton as reserve batsmen. 5 have played tests and Ingram, Hay, Tompson and Sherlock have a chance.

Wellington (last year)

Bell
Parlane
Fleming
Ryder
Parlane
Elliott
Franklin
Nevin
Patel
Gillespie
O'Brien

9 have played tests, Neal Parlane is a decent batsman and Michael Parlane can go to the ICL and get replaced by Brodie. :p

I remember him playing some beautiful pull and cut shots (as good as anything that Fleming was doing) during that hundred in South Africa, so I'd imagine he's at least capable off the back foot. The three pitches he's played on have been, admittedly, good for batting but to emphatically succeed three times in a row is surreal. Franklin for Ryder anyone?

Flynn goes well before Ryder does IMO.
Unlikely. I think my first impressions on Andy Moles preffered group to pick players from are well known here (ND) but as he's not a selector then perhaps the descisions will be balanced. Knowing selectorial egos they'll probably persist with Flynn for a zillion tests, regardless of what he does, though admittedly Hadlee, the guy who back his selection, is gone.

The problem with Flynn is that everybody (read general non CW-public, media and selectors) loves him because he's the classic kiwi battler so his popularity will see him in the side regardless longer than many. My issues with him are listed below:

-He rarely scores runs, despite having sensible shot selection compared to the rest and a nice sheltered batting position at six, he is generally outscored by the rest of the team.

-He has a habit of getting out in the 40s.

-He was picked on one good season ahead of other players with far better records and more experience. If you're going to do that then the player better be an instant star.

-He's clueless when the ball swings into his body.

In short, I dislike him in the test line up and hate him in the ODI tem, because he's even worse at ODIs. He's got the ability to be a good player, but his time is not now. Unfortunately, the selectors don't seem to like Hay or Broom much and Fulton is in woeful nick.

Your points are very valid and I dont think he ever should have been picked in the first place. But now he has been picked I think he has some talent and alot of guts but also some technical defficiences to work on. I wouldnt mind him staying on a bit longer but I wouldnt be complaining if he was dropped.

To be fair, I don't think Andy Moles has much of an ND bias. There's nothing unusual about a domestic coach advocating for the inclusion of his players in a national side. I also don't think Flynn's selection was a poor one either. Broom was having pretty ordinary season last year, Fulton was in even worse shape than he is now and Hay, while scoring plenty of runs had a habit of making a disproportionate number of them on Napier featherbeds (the two 90's not withstanding), conditions very different to early season England.
