Yea, they definitely think like that. The problem is that it's total bull****, as that's what they should be trying to fix, rather than just ignoring it and picking guys who've picked at 19.
Why the hell do India pick young blokes with "potential" over seasoned domestic performers? Great decision to do that. 8-)

Dhoni has FC average in 30's ..but One Day International Average of 45......so now what do you think............He got to indian team beacuse Ganguly had seen him & play gave him a chance........I think commitment on the ground matters more than averages........there are so many examples :-
Jonty Rhodes...averages in early 30's still played a lots of lots matches......beacuse he deserved .......won lots of matches for SA.......

Jayasuriya averages 31........and he is still playing & has played more than 400 ODI'S!!!!!!
Dhoni's one-day average was outstanding before he was picked and when I saw he'd been selected I thought "jeesh, this lad could be something". Sure enough, he was.

Rhodes and Jayasuriya's career averages also tell you little about them.

Rhodes and Jayasuriya, sure enough, offered a lot lot more to their teams besides just an average. But they do not make a good comparison here because they were also both in their respective national sides when the sides were fairly new / inexperienced. Rhodes was pretty much with SA since their re-entry into test cricket and when Jayasuriya started with Sri Lanka, they were a shadow of their current selves - they basically minnows in 1989. The Indian batting lineup, on the other hand, is quite well-established at the moment and has been for the last year or so and it would take more than a 42 average for someone to "break through" so to speak.

I was once so addicted to Tendulkar that I thought there were insects crawling inside my arm.

Do you feel the compulsive need to follow the cricket on the radio in the toilets at work or school?

Are your parents worried about you spending inordinate amounts of time all alone in your room, posting on cricket forums?

Do you find yourself stashing away money, to spend on your next fix of cricket on pay tv?

I have followed Manhas a bit over the last couple seasons and his problem is the style of batsmen he is. He is quite slow and only really has one tempo. He is a decent finisher and has a lot of not outs being at the death in run chases. Would be decent at 6ish, but there are other players that can play similar roles and better and have more ability to hit out when required. Get caught out at times when he required to go for the slog.

He does have a great average but seems to have some limitations to his game and probably too many to push for ODI spot. Sometimes there is more to player then his average. He has also played a bit for India A and North Zone and never really stood out. Also played Under 19s for India, back in day and never really stood out.

EDIT: His record for North Zone in List is actually quite good. FC is where he struggled for them. But his India A record is the main reason why he never got another chance. Had one chance and didn't set the world on fire and got forgotten about.

List A

Delhi 58 53 19 1687 125* 49.61 1 13 21
India A 4 4 1 98 42* 32.66 0 0 1
India Green 1 1 0 34 34 34.00 0 0 1
North Zone (India) 27 25 7 1074 122* 59.66 2 7 10

That is not the real India A team. It's actually one of those mixed-up Challenger Trophy squads, and Challenger records are such that they should be taken with a pinch of salt.

EDIT: Where have you seen him in action?

He played three India A matches against a KP lead England A side. Only one of his matches were in the Challenger Trophy v India B.

Just followed him during that said season in domestic cricket after he was a start in WCC, when I was running it. Was looking for more players from India at the time with crazy FC records.

Read quite a few match reports about him over the years since and generally comment has been his ability to work the ball around, but lack of ability at times to score boundries when required. I remember reading an article about the fact that he was continually overlooked even though other from the Dehli side Gambhir, Chopra etc had been given a call up on the back if Sehwag's word. The felling was that if he came up against better fielding sides that could cut down his singles. He would struggle to find other scoring avenues.

Never actually seen him play a match, so I can only go of the limited written courage of Indian domestic cricket and scorecards. Though there does seem to be trend with regards to him.

Hopefully he gets a decent run for the Daredevils next season and I can get a decent look at him and see if the reports are correct.
