hahaha

how long has it been since redmond has actually bowled the leggies ?

knowing from experience if you don't practice them they normally turn into pies

Trust is definitely required to make two players excellent runners between the wicket with each other, but in the Hayden and Katich case it wasn't that simple. Katich couldn't realistically set off till the ball had beaten Vettori and so wasn't on the move but was flat footed in his crease. If anything, after that perhaps he was guilty of a little ball watching instead of responding to Hayden's call, should he have heard it. Those incidents where both batsman need to where to wait to see if the ball evades the close fielder are the most frequent in running mis-understandings.

It was a very tight single anyway and maybe had they gone almost immediately they would have been safe, yet it was a risk that was unnecessary for Hayden to take.

Thought Ryder did ok anyway and looked about as likely to take a wicket than the rest of the quicker bowlers. Vettori was head and shoulders above the attack today, and will need to be tomorrow if NZ are to restrict Australia to a lead of less than 200.

Less than 2 months ago when he got 6 wickets vs India A, plus he is probably felling confident after a decient knock.

he must have taken the last bit of bacon at brekkie in front of vettori, decent part time leggies are worth their weight in gold

Redmond used to be a bowler from what I have heard so you would have to say that his leggies can't be that bad and might be worth a go.

yeah i had heard that, it's just one of those things that needs the practice kept up, it's not like bowling offies or mediums

Leg-spin is such a difficult skill that it takes literally hours and hours of practice, so if he isn't really turning his arm over a great deal, it will be a series of mis-directed half trackers, of which it is unlikely that the Aussies will miss out. Could still be an option for an over or two here or there, but I expect the experiment would not last long.

Yeah he has 96 first class wickets, not the best average but worth a punt for a couple of overs.

I got the odd feeling that Vettori doesn't really trust his part timers in test cricket. He's hardly bowled Ryder despite picking up a couple wickets (one of which came from a very good ball) at Brisbane, and you would've though he would've tried Redmond for at least a couple of overs yesterday. He should learn to quickly. The seamers looked visibly tired in that third session (reflected in lower speed gun ratings, particularly from Southee), and if Vettori wants them to be even the slightest bit effective on this track, he needs to give them enough time to rest and find someone else to bowl 10 or 15 overs.

Guess he's really feeling the loss of Oram. Ryder impressed me a bit with his over at the end of yesterday.

Redmond's leggies are more than handy. I definitely thought he would have been given a shot. If he errs, he tends to overpitch, rather than pitch short, which is probably less likely to go the distance. I'm sure he bowls his leggies in the nets all the time, so he will be well practiced. Deserves a crack, even if it is just one over of rubbish, atleast then we will know.
