Apparently its been confirmed that Fulton is in, and that he'll bat at 5 with McCullum shifting down to 7. Kind of daft to bat Ryder, Taylor and Fulton at 3,4 and 5 respectively when they bat at 4,5 and 3 for their provinces, but its better than a kick in the teeth.

I would prefer to see Fulton at 3, but i'm happier with him at 5 than McCullum, so in that sense it is good.

I hope you are right...Fulton batting at 7 would be ludicrous.

Vettori today confirmed batsman Peter Fulton would return at No 5 for his eighth test, and his first since January, in place of allrounder Grant Elliott in what is likely to be the only change from the side who lost the first test by 149 runs in Brisbane.

Offspinner Jeetan Patel was named in the New Zealand 12 but Vettori hinted he would miss the cut as they keep faith with pacemen Chris Martin, Iain O'Brien and Tim Southee, who bowled well at the 'Gabba.

All good decisions for mine.

Weird to see Fulton coming in at 5, but its still better than nothing.
The big plus is that it pushes McCullum down to 7 where he can be a lot more effective.

Well fair enough. Would still like to see Fulton at 3, but at least they haven't short changed him by making him open.

Yeah, Fulton > McCullum at no5, and McCullum>>>>>>>Elliot at 7. We've improved on 2 positions out of the 7. Getting rid of Redmond would change half the batting order for the better. I wonder what this new coach will do in the West Indies series.

How should also be in number one position at all times IMO. Works better when he has to face the first ball.

Loving Ryder at 3, kind of player that puts the pressure immediately back on the bowlers regardless of how good they're going. Just never looks flustered even when the ball is swinging. Just needs to sort himself out and he'll be brilliant. Taylor is similar but a little more reliable at this stage (only problem being a mental one at times). Fulton at 5 means one of these attackers will have a platform at the other end if needed who still scores some runs. Flynn at 6 will be there till the end of the game.

Gun. Can't wait till Franklins back in.

Any of you reckon Fulton should bat at 3? Then Ryder, Taylor, Flynn, etc. Just wondering, not saying he has to, since Ryder looks pretty comfortable at 3.

I reckon fulton should bat at #3.

Can anybody explain how hauritz gets called into the test team, when he doesnt even play for NSW in sheffield shield??? He's a decent player but im not sure if he'll be capable of putting in a decent performance.

What about Heal for the test team after Krezja??? He's a terrible bowler but he's the next half decent spin bowler that isnt injured atm.

Think its partly due to international experience and the complete lack of a decent spinner in Australia ATM
