24 wickets have fallen in two days. Will ICC pull up Cricket Australia for an explanation as they did when a similar thing happened in Ind Vs SA game?
They might pull NZ up as to why their batting's so horrifically ****...24 wickets have fallen in two days. Will ICC pull up Cricket Australia for an explanation as they did when a similar thing happened in Ind Vs SA game?
Watched the game? Pitch is fine. Both sides have batted poorly.24 wickets have fallen in two days. Will ICC pull up Cricket Australia for an explanation as they did when a similar thing happened in Ind Vs SA game?
Getting a big bit OT, but I've seen some heavy criticism of KP's tactics already- he admitted to never captaining a team before in his life before getting the Engand job. Chiefly leaving square leg vacant for Gambhir and Yuvraj to milk repeatedly for 2s during the second ODI.Some players thrive with the added responsibility, expectations and scrutiny, some don't. Doesn't make them a good captain, though. You actually need to be skilled enough in knowing the right tactics, how to set a field, how to handle players and knowing who to bowl and when. Simply making runs doesn't make you a good captain.
No, I didnt. But I know the pitch is doing bonkers. The one padded off by McCullum didnt bounce as expected. Plus, an outside off stump delivery from Johnson seamed quite a lot after pitching which made it a wide. So not as if there is absolutely nothing on the pitch.Watched the game? Pitch is fine. Both sides have batted poorly.
It's got a bit in it but it's no minefield. Making batsmen work for their runs, oh noes! No, I didnt. But I know the pitch is doing bonkers. The one padded off by McCullum didnt bounce as expected. It's a good pitch. Most certainly not "doing bonkers". It's really reasonably flat, moreso now than on the first day.No, I didnt. But I know the pitch is doing bonkers. Yeah, but a similar pitch at Kanpur earned the wrath of ICC.It's got a bit in it but it's no minefield. Making batsmen work for their runs, oh noes!
How's an interesting case - IMO he looks like hes got the ability to handle international cricket, but just can't score enough runs consistently. The 170 in the warm-up and the 140-odd against England in the 4th ODI at Napier last summer give indication of that. I don't think his place is under any immediate pressure unlike Redmond - this was an ideal chance to carry on and produce an innings of substance, and instead produces an aweful drive straight back at Stuart Clark. I commend the selectors for at least giving him a chance to get accustomed to the role of opening in international cricket but suspect their patience is wearing thin.No big surprise with the last couple of sessions I guess. Jamie How might be starting to look over his shoulder. I don't think he's made a 50 since the first innings of the second test against England, and since that time he's looked very ordinary.
Redmond didn't so much shoot himself in the foot as in the face. Bizarre way to get out and really indicative of the fact that he's just not up to it.
I'd say Peter Fulton looks pretty good for the number three spot though I'm not entirely unhappy with Ryder batting there. Whilst he hasn't got classical foot movement, hes proven effective at least in this match to get past the new ball but hasn't carried on, which I'd say will come with experience and perhaps fitness. I think thats a bit harsh on Taylor who played his shots and was rewarded - hes rode his luck at times, admittedly, but hes shown a positive intent and its come off for him. Agreed regarding McCullum and Flynn will surely bat at number five at Adelaide.Ryder is not a number 3.
Taylor batted well, though he was (as he needs to be in order to get runs) very lucky to survive, not just from the caught behind appeal, but half a dozen other plays and misses during his innings, from attempted drives.
McCullum is not a number 5, and his dismissal was so predictable, it was almost like watching Matthew Bell again. I really couldn't believe that he was sent in to bat there again, my poor television coped quite a verbal serve when he walked out after Ryder's wicket. On his current form, he'd struggle to make number 7.
Fully agreed with your comment on Elliot. Flynn's really impressed me during this match and his dismissal with 20 minutes to play was absolutely crucial, and hands Australia the advantage. If we were to head into day four with six wickets in hand, I'd be hopeful of a victory; but with six down it really is all but game over. I think half the problem with Flynn facing Johnson was that he had to face two or three overs in a row, without a lot of rotation of the strike. That allowed Johnson to work over Flynn and eventually dismiss him. Whilst Flynn's played well, perhaps that aspect of his game (rotating the strike) could be worked on.Flynn was good, but slightly disapointing in the last half hour, when he seemed to lose his composure and started playing and missing a lot more. Also seemed completely incapable of playing Johnson when he swung the ball into him, which is a bit of a worry. But he also played some nice shots so I'll give him a pass.
Elliot should not be playing.
I said a few days ago that our fielding will be reflective of the results. The dropped catch from Ryder (and the more difficult caught and bowled dropped catch from O'Brien) which allowed Katich to make an extra 50 or so runs was a huge boost for the Australians and made our chances of a victory so much more difficult. I also hope Taylor makes a hundred tomorrow, but without wanting to sound too depressing, wouldn't be surprised to see us all out before lunch. There! Hugely gauling that we let Australia get 300+, especially with Ryder dropping Katich. I knew our fielding would show its shoddiness eventually. If we were 180/6 at stumps chasing 250, I'd give us an outside chance to get it done. Instead poor selections and a bit of poor catching have cost us a precious opportunity to get one up on the aussies.
Really hope Taylor gets his hundred tomorrow, and that we at least put up a respectable fight.
Spot. Bit of green on it but nice, consistent bounce generally Most of the good bowling has been due to movement in the air. It's got a bit in it but it's no minefield. Making batsmen work for their runs, oh noes!

sorry gI wasn't saying it was a bad thing...
It was better than Gabba for scoring as the card suggests. The pitch at Kanpur was nothing like this.
I had the radio commentary while I was driving this afternoon and the commentators were saying Flynn had the technique to be a good opener. That sounds like a recipe for disaster to me, but it also sounds like something the selectors would try.
That. Redmond is not all looking convincing.Anyone > Redmond
