I have to say I have been very impressed with Flynn in this Test. Despite the determination he has shown, he can play some wonderful cricketing shots. A star for mine.
his teamates could learn something from him.

i'm still thinking about how and those hard hard hands, i'm sure i seen him get out that way in england last year

i think 5 is his limit, but i also wouldn't stick with someone who is not performing simply due to there being 'no one else ready', throw a young bloke in there, make an inspired selection, if it fails, well then you can put it down to just being NZ :P
Youre forgetting we had Mark Richardson opening, his limit was actually 9 but he did alright anyway.

Actually, inspired selection, Greg Hay... possible future with the team anyway. Put him in and tell him he has nothing to lose. Just have a go.

forgot about him, he was alright, late starter, but when i hear his name i either think of the 'sprint' with darren lehmann in a brown bodysuit or the prank stephen fleming played on him when he started commentating.

There is a few young blokes that could be in the team in a few years but they are really too young at the moment. everyone else really is a bit of a journeyman. Apart from Hay and perhaps Guptill. Its really looking like replacing Redmond with another Redmond.

Redmond failing at Adelaide and getting dropped>>>someone who isn't ready but could be a few years down the track failing. See Rutherford, Ken.

His career never really recovered and was finished before he was 30.

Captaincy has nothing to do with it.
must have been doing something right, they don't make nuffies captain, apart from lee germon, lets not forget nz have lower standards of success

Being the best player ≠ being made captain. Ken Rutherford was described as being incredibly talented, however he was debuted too young, had a shocking run of form that effected his mental game so he never fully lived up to his potential, which was one of the main reasons for his departure from cricket.

As far as not making nuffies captain, Mike Brearley pretty much puts that theory to death - he was actually a specialist captain, really.

point taken, he was pretty good though (allegedly, bit before my time), and had a good team around him.

Utseya would have to be the worst player as captain, but he doesn't count really, nothing from zimbabwe counts

Ganguly, Taylor, Shoaib Malik, Chanderpaul, Gayle weren't/aren't the best players in the side when they were made captain, to name a few.
