Dravid makes a 75 ball 50 in the Karnataka second innings of 171. The pitch is certainly bowler friendly as Saurashtra are 24-4 in the last innings already.

You think Pujara will make an India Number Four? The Fab Four could make this team's three or four anytime, which was their advantage, so that's the benchmark for him.

It's good to see Balaji back in the picture. Hopefully he'll rake in loads of wickets for TN and force his way back to the national team on his own performances.

Elsewhere, Sunny Sohal, the Punjab opener, scores yet another century, his third in as many matches.

I am not sure Pujara can directly step into No.4. I'd say give him a run at No.5 or No.6 for a while, like we did to Tendulkar. And groom him to take over from Tendulkar at No.4

Definitely a future test class for sure.

If he can't make it higher than number six, he has no chance of making the Indian team, because he isn't good enough.

His recent run of form, though, suggests otherwise. Who wouldn't want a batsman who's still fresh and new, scoring big so often? Rather than rush him in at six, and falter, and end up being a non-prospect like Yuvraj Singh or Mohammed Kaif, I'd prefer to keep him out of all top-level international action until he's scored enough runs to build a record screaming for an India number four, and then get him in. After all, any of India's Fab Four would make a number four, which is why they've lasted so long. That's what we expect from every specialist batsman to play for India.

Fair points.

But Pujara has a much better record even at the start of his relatively short career as compared to Yuvraj Singh or Mohd Kaif. He has shown the ability to score big and stay long, which the other two lack. So that would negate overt concerns as to his failure at No.6.

I advocate for his start at Ganguly's spot, No.6 because he will have the seniors, atleast Tendulkar and Laxman, plus Sehwag around him which would take off pressure, while he can be weaned into the top-level squad nicely. Similar to what Australia did to Ricky Ponting. He was mediocre to start with, slowly learnt the tricks and blossomed into world class.

Karnataka vs Baroda: Suddenly I lose interest in Baroda, but I'd prefer to see them win the Ranji Trophy on the back of Irfan's performances. They're missing Munaf and the Pathans, but don't they have Dilhara Fernando to choose?

Other matches: Maybe Cricinfo have bases in Mumbai, Delhi, Karnataka and TN. Uttar Pradesh will surely need a fit Praveen Kumar, though the return of RP Singh should help both the team and the young pacer a lot. Railways have been a bit disappointing, and hopefully they'll pick up from that last match and march on to the semis. One of Maharashtra and Andhra (from Group B) and possibly Rajasthan (from Group A) will be relegated.

Good that Praveen's injury is minor - he really is a long term ODI prospect.

Yusuf Pathan's allround displays made Baroda a force to reckon with last time around. This time, they are missing Pathan badly.

Dravid to watch out for. Hopefully he gets a big hundred and confidence. Uthappa would like to continue his scoring spree.

That's actually Manhas who bowled three overs, and obviously you don't need non-bowlers to bowl more than three. Nanda picking no more than one wicket is not a good sign, though.

Elsewhere, Railways take out Andhra for 206 with a very weak bowling attack. That's all that's available on CA.

Just in- Baroda all out for 165 with a new spinner form Karnataka, Sunil Raju, taking four wickets. Dravid is unbeaten at 27 and Karnataka are at 63 for three. Uttar Pradesh are at 86 for one after rolling over Maharashtra for 221, with RP Singh taking three wickets. His return to UP has helped both him and the team a lot. Playing for Hyderabad, Laxman scores an unbeaten 96 and Hyderabad are at 273 for five, against relegation-threatened Rajasthan. In a match that doesn't mean much, Orissa's medium-pacer Basanth Mohanty skittled out Punjab for 60 with a little help from Debashis Mohanty, and Orissa are at 148 for five.

Gagandeep Singh with 4/18 off 16 overs for Punjab; defending Punjab's abysmal (to be obscenely kind) total. Gagandeep Singh looked quite the poor bowler in the IPL (slow, inaccurate, only a hint of swing) but I am really not sure what to think of him. 253 wickets at 20.54 is quite an extraordinary effort and although Mohali is a seamer friendly venue, nowhere inside India is that seamer friendly, tbh. OD is even more baffling, very very rarely these days do you see an economy of 3.79 over 41 games.

Gagandeep leads the bowling attack for Punjab, so he opens with the fresh, new ball. When he played in the IPL, he was often brought on second-change with defensive fields, and used like Ganguly. That didn't help him at all. and he's a much better bowler than what that suggests, and surely better than Gony.

Rahul Dravid (bowled again) for a good 83, wonder whether that's good enough. Wanted a big one from him.

I had to put this off due to the heat of that time. Four matches (Railways beat Andhra, UP beat Maharashtra, Orissa beat Punjab and Karnataka beat Baroda) ended in results, but that wasn't a very interesting phase to watch.

This time, we have a minefield of a pitch at the Kotla, where 24 (you read that right) wickets fell on the first day itself, with Ishant Sharma bagging seven. Delhi was all out for 76 and Orissa for 80, and Delhi are at 38 for four. The Mohantys and Sukanta Khatua shared the wickets.

Baroda have gone into this match with six bowlers, with Irfan Pathan leading the way, taking five. He's continuing his impressive domestic form. Munaf, though, only grabbed two, while spinners Pawar and Yusuf Pathan got little to do.

The match between UP and Railways has no scorecard at present, but Praveen Kumar scored a rapid 51 off 56 deliveries, while Raina scored 66. Wickets were shared, three each, to Anureet Singh and Kiran Sharma. UP are at 275 for eight.
