**Official** New Zealand in Australia

Great example this morning of how poorly constructed New Zealand's batting order is. You've got at least one (I'm giving How the benefit of the doubt) sub-standard opener, meaning its extremely likely you'll lose a wicket within the first few overs. So what's the strategy to deal with that? Follow him with three super-aggressive batsman all extremely vulnerable to throwing their wicket away early on. The end result is almost invariably 4 or 5 wickets down by 100.

Wow, awesome call from Rudi. We would have been in big trouble with Taylor gone. To have any chance of posting a decent lead we need Taylor to atleast double his score.

Taylor + Flynn + Elliot + Vettori + Southee/O'Brien

Hmm unless Taylor tons up we won't get much of a lead, and even if he does he'll need Flynn or Elliot to show some nerve or Vettori to stick around. (Captain Amazing doesn't need to show nerve)

Some thoughts

1) Australia v NZ in Australia consistently produces some of the best cricket available.. Hence why although I don't care about the result, I always dignify it with all-nighters.. Right up there with the Ashes for mine..

2) One of the best lines of commentary I've heard for a while.. "Ryder.... Carrying a little bit of extra conditioning here"

3) Have the C9 graphics always been the same? They certainly have since the mid nineties when I started watching cricket..

4) Foaming at the mouth at the prospect of SA facing a side containing possibly Watson, Krezja and Johnson.. Even Lee is averaging over 30 in test cricket.. Although slightly more worried about Ponting/Hussey/Clarke/Clark/Hayden

Never even looked like he hit it, Greig is on PCP or something.
Agree...the moment the Aussies starting appealing I said to myself "Hit his pad". It looked pretty clear cut for mine, it didnt have a woody sound, and the ball died completely before it reached Haddin. On that pitch, an edge is never going to die before it reaches the keeper. Perhaps the Aussies thought they were still in India because it was a ridiculously "that's 100% definitely out" kind of appeal.

Game in the balance, seriously seriously in the balance. Taylor is the man, he goes and NZ are in big trouble. I'm ropable at Ryder for giving his wicket away, sorry for disagreeing with you Bahnz, you were dead right.

Taylor HAS to stand up here...he can make himself a hero with a ton, or he can make himself the villain if he gets out soon after lunch. Still need 300 I feel.

No doubt Australia won that session, but not by that much. 3/100 would have been par IMO. Still don't think NZ are in too bad a position given it should get slightly easier to bat in the 2nd session with the ball 30 odd overs old and with the sun out. Still hopeful NZ can get the Aussie total 6 down.

Yeah have to admit while our boys are by no means the best we play our hardest against our neighbors. Exactly why I'm backing Taylor so much to do well in this match, his biggest problem is his mentality and against Australia you don't get a chance to be stupid and it brings the best out of him.

Such a gun match even though McCullum and Ryder disappointed by blatantly letting our hold slip.

50/50 at the moment, with perhaps Australia holding the advantage going into lunch with New Zealand's long tail (bar Vettori). I can't see us getting much more than 50-60 runs out of the next 5 batsmen to come really. Hoping Taylor can go on with it and Flynn can just stick around in support.

C'mon, it looked very very close. And considering all the Aussies were celebrating already.
