I like Elliott just fine, I think he is a very good cricketer. I just don't see the point in picking a bits and pieces all-rounder over a specialist batsman, when it is the batting that we will need. Especially when Fulton has been called over to Australia for the game, and has had to miss his FC game with Canterbury for nothing.
Fulton > Redmond or Flynn then imo. Rate Elliott as a batsman who can bowl a bit.

Plays about 80% of shots with only 10% of his bat. He has character and domestic performances behind him but his technique is pretty poor. I have no idea at all why he isn't in the ODI team over Flynn but I wouldn't pick him in Tests. I'd probably even pick Flynn ahead of him in Tests if I had to make the choice between the two and I don't rate Flynn at all.

Need to get back some pressure after that great first session. Can see these two running away with it.

How many times have we seen this before...NZ take 3 quick wickets, only to let it slip. If they finish Aussie off for less than 200 after lunch then that's great..but im not holding my breath.

Martin's had an average start while O'Brien's been good, but not spectacular..these two need to raise their game in the next session.
You need to take some happy pills fella.Normally NZ struggle to get 1 wicket in the 1st session in Australia let alone 3. Overall I don't think we let it slip that much in the 2nd hour just Clarke & Hussey played very well & the former was a little lucky at times. I also think Martin was slightly better than average. Overall a great session to watch.

Seriously, why would you bowl there to Hussey when the ball's doing a bit off the deck? Pitch it up son!!!

I fail to see how Martin is better than Mills. I guess you could argue he's less similar to the other two than Mills, but Australia would be 4 or 5 down if Mills opened the bowling IMO. I know he hasn't been in the best form in the last month or so but it's very harsh regardless.

Anyway, Elliott bowling a good length here. Would not surprise me if he picked up one in this spell.

As the Channel 9 commentators are saying, the kiwis need to attack soon.

I'm not complaining, but if Hussey and Clarke keep going how they are, there will be no stopping during the rest of the day.
