lol u really amuse me sometimes precamb. What if...
well how about this one then.

What if all of GIMH's predictions started coming true? this would be a very different series is a first one.
Well, to be fair, GIMH's predictions are all going to come true after all. Prior, Freddie, Pietersen, Collingwood, Bopara are all going to be there at the end.........at the presentation ceremony that is

It's jsut a collapse, that's all. :(
These tyopes of collapses are often due to lower order players being forced to score at twice the rate the top order scored at.

After 26 overs England were 110-3. That leaves the supposed 'lesser' batsmen to score at 7.5 an over because the top order **** around tickling the ball.

Many collapses are caused by the top order passing the buck and avoiding playing proactive innings and forcing the middle-late order to play innings they dare not play themselves.

It is cowardly cricket.

Samit Patel seems to be continuing the recent tradition of English batsmen being picked as frontline ODI spinners, starting surprisingly well with the ball, doing nothing with the bat down the order and then crashing back to earth by getting absolutely smashed with the ball as their career progresses.

Blackwell, Yardy, Dalrymple.. now Patel. It seems to be a set role: the "batsman spinner"; it's really odd. Unlike the other three, though, Patel actually has a fair bit of promise as a specialist batsman (or perhaps a batting allrounder, even) so lets hope this silly role doesn't ruin him. Then again, it's a more useful role than what Bopara and Wright have been picked for in recent times...

If only England started taking the initiative a bit early. Prior and Shah were too slow. Put too much pressure on Kevin and Fred. And Kevin too was slow a bit. Only Fred really looked dangerous. Had they started 5 overs early, with such a good tail, they could have a go at India.

If i may say something i think the england team needs to look into Bell and Collingwood and quite possiblly the keeper should not be opening. what do you guys think?

And hopefully india can drop RP for next game and get ishant in.

England really do have and odd set up. Bopara and Patel were probably the two best List A batsmen last season. Bopara batted at 3 for Essex and Patel at 4 or 5 for Notts. But for some reason, they now but at 7 and 8. Just a waste of talent. I think Bell needs to go and Patel or Bopara be either promoted or demoted from the etam in general.

There is no point in having Bopara in the team if he is batting so low - he doesn't even bowl (now).

:ranting: England could have batted out their overs. They have now made India look having won comprehensively (by 50+ margin), while they did not. I am not at all happy with India's performance, only Yuvi and Pathan and Gambhir did well. Expecting these overconfident bunch a solid pasting by England in the next match at Kanpur.

Yeah! Want Bopara and Patel to bat higher. Push Prior and Shah down, their game against spin is circumspect and leads the innings to lose momentum.

tbf to KP, he usually goes on with it after a slowish start.
Agreed about Prior, of course.

Trouble is, none of them are in any sort of form having played naff all competitive cricket before the series. If Prior & Shah had played more shots, we'd have probably found ourselves 30 for 3 again. Not that Prior is capable of doing much even when he does have a few games behind him.

Correct, yet when I posted after 18 overs that it was time for Prior and Shah to get a move on, it was "there's plenty time to build an innings."

No there's not. 50 overs is not a long period of time, especially when you've conceded 292. All it takes is 6-7 overs of scoring at 3 an over and the run rate jumps.

The management has to look at it's selection. Prior has had long enough to establish himself at the top of the order - that his ODI best is 52, and with a strike rate in the 70s you have to ask what the hell purpose he serves in the top order.

The situation is doubly unfair on guys like Bopara and Patel - a) they're wasted down the order, and b) the only time they'll generally get to bat is either in the slog overs batting first if a couple of wickets have fallen cheaply, or b) to save a massive collapse from the top order.

How on earth they're supposed to develop as cricketers under those circumstances is beyond me.

Won't happen. Our batting's too ****e to be competitive, and we're still making too many duff calls. On a pitch where all 9 English non-runout-wickets fell to spinners, we didn't play a specialist one. Fred's didn't get to bowl his full quota. Anderson 4 short when going at 4.3 an over. etc. etc.

With Englands lack of (quality) openers, I think either Bopara or Patel will have to go. Who knows what might happen in the next game? Shah needed the runner this innings so he might not play. I recall Bopara batting at 3 in the last England series (may of been Collingwood's last game as captain as KP has been a strong advocate of Shah at 3; and he batted there the next game), so if Shah is injured, England could bring in another bowler or Wright.
