Hoping Badri.
No Badri.

India Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Ishant Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, RP Singh, Virat Kohli, M Vijay

Not bad stuff. Expecting the lineup as follows:

V Sehwag
G Gambhir
Y Singh
R Sharma
S Raina
M Dhoni
Y Pathan/V Kohli
H Singh
Z Khan
I Sharma
M Patel

That looks an extremely strong side. Would expect Yusuf to get in over Virat Kohli for the bowling and hard hitting factor but would expect also to see Kohli come in for an out of form batsman in the later ODIs.

Sharma is in excellent form after stroking a wondrous 2nd inngs hundred for Mumbai against Rajasthan which setup a win.

Sehwag is the deputy for the series. Prima Donna Yuvi slowly but surely being reminded that he's not indispensible.

Sehwag back into the ODI fold? I also have no issue with Yuvraj being in the team, obviously he is underperforming for someone of his talents, but the 'younger' blokes, namely Rohit haven't done what has been required of them.

Had a bit of change of heart to this series of late. Not really that pissed anymore that 7 ODI's are going to played & only two tests.

The ODI side is resurging ATM, so this is one best test they can get outside a series vs AUS. PLus the big test contest is the Ashes, so these two test can just come and ago quick for me.

For this Indian side, I'd prefer to see (or not see) Yuvraj out of the XI. It will help him and the team a lot more. He's not scoring too many, he can't bowl and he's struggling on the field. It's come to a stage where a frontline bowler would add more value to his place.

In comparison, we haven't seen Rohit Sharma stretched much, and he should get a more crucial role in the lineup. A promotion to three or four, to get a certain century, would help a lot more than getting an impossible two-runs-a-ball century at six or seven with ten overs left. The batting lineup should be a specialist batsman (read: a batsman who can't bowl) light so that the top six (Dhoni included) are stretched a little, so that they get more responsibility, and play responsibly. I'm talking of an innings like that of Rohit Sharma at Sydney- not spectacular in numbers or strokes, but still substantial. Kohli and Raina have done well in their previous matches, so they can go down the order a little.

Seeing Krejza's success in a Test match, it's time they play Yusuf Pathan as a limited-overs spinner. This is just right for him- he's a steady bowler, gives nothing away and bowls without any of the baggage or blocks (no flight, fire-it-in-straight or slow-with-no-turn) we find with some established bowlers. Moreover, he's the best choice for that inconvenient number seven position, where big hits, hard dashes across the wicket and a semblance of a sensible innings are needed- and he has it all. For that, Dhoni needs to be more flexible in captaincy, a lot like his short-term predecessor.

Putting together four frontline bowlers, though, will be a tough task. They can't risk Zaheer and Ishant getting injured in the series, else it's farewell Test Trophy. They'll have to bench one of the seamers and Harbhajan regularly, or even two, but the prospect of having Pragyan Ojha or Munaf Patel in the ODI side isn't encouraging. RP Singh may have his problems with the ball, but can surely do a lot better on the field, so we should see him in all seven ODIs.

The best part of this team will be the opening combination of Sehwag and Gambhir, though they also have Vijay as a reliable backup.

Today's game's obviously just a net session in the middle, being a 12-a-side match. Good to see Flintoff having a good net-in-the-middle though.

No Chawla/Sreesanth/RP/Pathan (not sure who's injured/omitted)??

Sreesanth is injured still, nursing that troublesome back area. Chawla and Pathan have been omitted from the squad and RP Singh has been adjudged by Precambrian to not be up to making the XI.

So i just heard Flintoff hit 101no in a practice match in mumbai

It is a shame that Mumbai have, perhaps rightfully so, chosen to play a second XI against England; as their first XI may have been able to trouble England, with the likes of Dhawal Kulkarni, Agarkar, Powar, Rahane, Rohit Sharma, etc.

If England are going to treat their hosts with disdain (I presume it's they who wanted the 12-a-side game) I don't see that they deserve anything else in return.

Play 11-a-side and maybe you can expect someone to pick their best team.

I don't think we could have ever hoped for Mumbai to pick a full strength team considering the Ranji Trophy has already begun. It wouldn't have been too bad to include one or two ringers though.

Good to see Flintoff hitting a ton regardless of the status of the match, think it's the first time he's tonned up at all, be it international, domestic, second XI etc, since August 2005
