If you were the recruitment officer for a company or their HR person, and you kept hiring people who you knew that the boss had no confidence in and who the boss was not going to use, you should expect to be held accountable for that.

Effectively, that's what the selectors have done in this Series. They've kept selecting Cameron White in the full knowledge, leaving his shocking figures aside, that the captain has no confidence in him and is not going to use him.

There has to be some accountability for this piece of madness.

Anyone else watching in the UK? Who is this on with Charles Colville... I want to send him a Watto fanclub sticker. :)

Thinking about it, the problem with White is exasperated by the problem with Clarke. You would probably have expected him to bowl better this series, and also now presumably he's not bowling this match due to injury. If Clarke had been doing sort-of okay, and able to get through a few overs, you would have thought he could have done what White was picked for in this match... he's only bowled ten overs so far.

Clarke shouldn't be bowling if they could avoid it, though. He's a batsman.

Aussie bowling looking castrated now. Sad to see an Aussie bowling the "Giles" line of negativity. Sums up imho. They are waiting and waiting for a mistake from the Indians, and nothing's happening. Ponting looks like a draw is the best option here.
Australia simply has not looked like taking 20 wickets in any game this series and this is probably one of the rare occasions when I have seen a series where a strong batting lineup has been called upon to continually save games for a team that simply does not have any hope of winning. The gulf in quality between Australia's batting and bowling currently is huge, bigger than the same for any other side in a long long time. I'd said before the series that Australias only hope was to bat out draws in the series as I simply do not rate the Aussie bowling attack on subcontinental soil, nor do I rate Clark and Lee as highly as some others on this forum seem to do.

Ponting is seriously pissing me off. WHY PICK WHITE if you aren't going to bowl him. WHY?
I think some of the selections this series have merely reconfirmed the long held notion that the Australian selectors are incompetent. Of course many people would like to believe that Australia's success over the past decade and a half was in some way suggestive of the quality of selections made, but that was never simply the case.

I don't see why not, other batsmen manage it. I'm not talking huge spells, but ten overs an innings.
Well for one, I think it's definitely affecting his batting. And for two, he's had a dodgy back for many years, bowling seems to aggravate it, further affecting his batting. Thos are the main reasons I reckon he should be bowling at all. nothing to do ability, mind.

It's just that pre-fishing saga there was talk that you could play four quicks because Symonds and Clarke could share the spin duties. Given Clarke this series I don't see how that's possible.

Harsh. The players obviously did the work but, with a few exceptions, the selection of the side has been pretty good. Been a pretty easy job, though.....

But things like picking Warne in the first place, re-selecting both Hayden and Langer, having the guts to pick Gilchrist, picking McGrath after 8 FC matches, etc. were all good picks. They've certainly made their fair share of mistakes but incompetant? If they're incompetant, so is just about every other selection panel.

I haven't seen Krejza bowl, but if he has any potential and Ponting is a bit smart he will spare him that ignominy. If they score 300-400 off him in this test then I fear he may not be able to return from this.

I was always dubious of such tactics, myself. Using part-timers to make up the overs is something you do in ODI cricket. In Tests, pretty rare it doesn't get exposed.
