Well for world cricket sake i hope the Kiwis are since with Pakistan going through turmoil & WI still struggling despite the efforts of Standford. Having just 5 competitive nations is disappoiting.
Taylor, Southee, Ryder are encouraging prospects no doubt. What about the some younger players, i seem to remember NZ doing pretty well in the Under-19 WC earlier this year?
Southee, Trent Boult and Corey Anderson were the three that took us to the semi's of the U19 WC. Boult and Anderson are looking good for BlackCaps callups after a few good seasons of FC cricket.
Why is Elliott a better selection than Fulton?
Fulton is far more proven as a batsman at a high level than Elliott.

Not quite - I was pointing out that Elliott will be replacing Oram in terms of team role, and that he was assured a start anyway, and that it didn't really come down to being between him and Fulton.. Though I think Fulton should be ahead of him anyway.

I agree with you guys about Elliott. He is not a test standard player, perhaps ODI's but Id rather see fulton the specialist batsman or perhaps another bowler. Playing four quicks and Vettori.

Isn't this where NZ teams generally win?
Anyways, hoping to see us try and take it to them, no point in giving the newbies a run for some experience. Tell them straight up to have a real go. Highly likely they'd fall flat on their face but hey, don't die wondering.
On the positive side for our batting, the middle order would love Aussie tracks. Taylor, Ryder and McCullum are all flat track fans, and I think Perm described Redmond last year as a flat track bully, so he's come to the right place. Also, our biggest issue: spin, won't be as effective because we're in Australia facing the might of Cameron White, whom with any luck will get mown into the stands.
Clark and Lee are the two big threats, we need to handle them effectively, which we probably won't. Johnson and Watson should be fairly regulation and non-scary, even for our lot.
The bowling department will be interesting:
Mills is effective early on with the new ball but unpenetrative after that.
Martin is trash outside of NZ and SA. This will be his big series to see if he can reverse that trend.
O'Brien is bowling like his domestic record says he should, and this will be the crunch series for him to see how far he has come since...ahem...last time.
Southee after a fantastic debut looked fairly average in England.
Nobody knows which Mark Gillespie will turn up if he's selected.
Vettori is Jesus reincarnated.
Interesting to see Elliott selected. As much as I rate the guy in ODIs, he's not a test man. Let him be the biggest pain in the arse to the opposition in ODIs and don't expose him to tests please.

I actually enjoy the prospect of the NZ team getting thrown in the deep end. Its great to see who can really stand up and compete against the best. IMO its a selection clarifier. It doesnt matter so much if you score loads of runs or takes loads of wickets, but just if you seem to be able to compete.

Redmond to get 4 scores under 10 in 4 innings.
How to not exceed 30 in 4 innings.
Fulton to do well.
Ryder and Taylor compete well with a decent score or two each.
Mccullum to score a hundred in the test series,
Southee to be the best bowler of the series.

Thinking he is talking about one bad test...He was very good in the ODI series. Should defo start here.
I can't believe Elliott is going to get a gig.
Southee should play and Vettori should bat 7. Australia's strength lies in their batting and you cannot win a test without taking 20 wickets (well..unless the opposition declare).
No matter how good/bad our batting is, if we can't take 20 wickets, we can't win. May as well sacrifice a batting position and potentially 30-40 runs to actually give us a shot at an outside victory.
