The Wheel is Forever
Don't think we'll get rolled over. It's easy to underestimate us but a fit, on-form Flintoff (which is what we have at the minute, and Flintoff is a player who generally being in form in one form of the game translates to all forms) makes a huge difference.
The great thing about the seven ODIs is that by the end of that marathon, Freddie's ankle will be completely churned up and he'll miss the Tests.

By the time the decade long ODI series ends, I'll probably be completely uninterested in cricket.
The 7 ODI series will present a good opportunity for the touring millionaires to explore small town India in their pink Ferrari's.

Oh wait....

The Indian selectors have made a very average selection for the ODI series coming ahead. At times, we wonder, do we really need seven one-dayers? It seems a waste of time, especially when it's accepted that Test cricket is the more relevant form. Rather than go all-out in this series, they can use it to prune some facets of their ODI game that need it.

It's good to see Yusuf Pathan back in the team. He's a reliable batsman for the teams he represents, and can be used to launch a final overs attack- something every Indian batsman at six and seven has been found wanting in. He's also adept at putting together chunky scores by sensible batting. However, his steady off-spin will be more relevant, as the Indians have been weak in containing batting sides in the middle overs. None of their current top batsmen are capable with the ball to replace a full-time, frontline bowler, so he has a place. He's just right for the ODI team.

The exclusion of Badrinath is a shocker. This, when the Chairman of Selectors hails from the same state. He was the man in form. He scored big for a long time. He's also contributed a lot on the field, as well as in that odd match with the ball. Yet he's sitting out, while an out-of-form (and unfit) Yuvraj stays on. Vijay is rewarded for a good Challenger series, but those things should be taken with a pinch of salt, and we know that well. Munaf Patel shouldn't be anywhere near a one-day side when his fielding is so inadequate, and even England realise that fielding is a more than relevant aspect of the game. There is no shortage of pace bowlers in the country who can perform as well as him, and still do a lot on the field.

We wonder why Irfan Pathan and Praveen Kumar are left out. Irfan is short of wickets, of course, but Kumar was the top bowler in the last series, and he's also capable with the bat. Maybe because there are so many ODIs, they're trying out something new. Zaheer and Ishant, the Test opening bowlers, are opening the bowling for the ODI side- and that's a recipe for disaster, when you find that there are seven ODIs and a more relevant Test series to follow. If they play on flat pitches, they're finished. It's difficult to be pleased with a limited-overs side full of batsmen who can't bowl, bowlers who can't bat, a liability on the field and a single all-round prospect who may be under-used. Then again, there's one ODI too many played these days...

you thought.....

you thought the aussies struggled wait till the poms get to india. oh i cant wait to see this. hah and to think peitersen thinks hes top shiz just cause he won 1 test where south africa didnt step up the intensity they maintaned in the previous 3 test apart from their first innings at lords and the odis. pfftwe shall see how they play the spinners in india. and we all know england batsman and south african batsman suck at playing spin bowling. and also australia may be in decline but they are still a top side and will beat england next year so you can forget an ashes 2005 repeat. thats was a dream come true for you poms and will not happen again, i bet money on that. dreams dont come true twice.

Good to see him missing ODIs rather than Tests. A more than understandable request, for my money.
