Utterly pointless declaration.
Meh, its just to give Kumble a last chance to have a bit of a gig and to his mates and the crowd a chance to give him a good send off, its not as if the game is really on the line or something, so this declaration is no big deal imo...

In admist all the retirements and so on. What everyone has been calling for a while now will become a permanent fixture - Dhonu as India's blanket captain; Tests, ODIs and 20/20.

Same thing could be achieved at the after match presentation

This is a mockery. Is it Test cricket or a scratch match? Kumble's retiring, big whoop, he just put his own needs above that of the game.
Have to strongly disagree. It was anyway going to be a draw, and if he wants to go out with the ball in his hand, what is the problem?

And can you EXPLAIN putting himself ahead of the game? Would you have liked to watch Laxman and Ganguly play ot after dot against the likes of Clarke and White?

It's pathetic. I can't come up with an objective reason why because it's nothing to do with objectivity. This, in my view, is an ego trip and anyone else who did it would have been pillored.

No, I'd rather than went off and called it a day if India lost interest in trying to force a result in the game.

Sometimes, just sometimes, there are moments in sport when winning isnt everything. Consider this one as one of those. Oh yeah, it's up to you anyway.

I'd have no doubt that anyone in the Indian team has any issues with doing this for him. What a guy, given more to India than any other player so if he wants a bit of a parade on an otherwise meaningless afternoon then I say give it to him.

Disagree. The test is a dead-set draw, means nearly nothing now. Kumble deserves a last shot with the ball if he wants it.

Yeah exactly, it's my opinion. And I'm just finding the whole spectacle less than edifying. Then again, I'm pretty unsentimental.

have to agree. not sure what the point of staying out there is. i don't think it's as far as 'lack of respect' for either game or opponent, but it is mighty self-centered.

I very very very much doubt it. You'd imagine he'll be batting in our middle order after both Hussey and Ponting retire (which will probably be around the same time) and I'm sure he'd get a few overs.
Yeah fair call that, i can see White being a permanent member of the Aussie side in the upcoming years, and he might play a similar role to what Symmo currently does in the Aussie side.

Must say, without Harbhajan our attack has lost a lot of mongrel. Really need the guy back, he lifts the rest of the side so much.
