Wish Ryder had gone the slog...that was painful. I don't get why they would just want to get a not out against their name, if it was certain the team wasn't going to lose, and I had a free license i'd love nothing more than to try and hit it as hard and as far as I could. I don't get it.

I'd hate to have you on my team then. There was a lot more to gain from getting some valuable experience batting at Test level for emerging players than just trying to whack it FFS.

Polo is right to an extent, people saying time in the middle and all that but the series is now over and New Zealand next series is not in Bangladesh and it’s not against Bangladesh. What did Ryder or Redmond achieve other than a not out? Redmond’s test career is likely to be over pretty soon anyhow…Playing turgid cricket against the Bangla boys hardly cuts it…

These guys are professional sportsmen, it isn't hit and giggle in the park, add to that that we were never going to win after they avoided the follow on.

 We rightly complained about some of the shots from the batsmen, particularly McCullum, that saw them dismissed earlier in the series, and now you want them to carry on in that sort of manner? In a test match?

An extra hour out in the middle's better than an extra hour sitting in the dressing room after throwing your wicket away IMO. If Redmond's test career is so certain to end then surely he'd be doing everything possible to score as many runs, and be out in the middle as much as possible?? Why on earth would he want to throw an opportunity away?

But it wasn’t like Redmond was maximising his run scoring opportunities or making the best of the situation. He could have shown some positive intent and left Bangladesh on a high but he left playing a turgid innings which still raises questions whether his good enough at this level.

All in all it was probably not the ideal series but i think alot can be learnt from it and a number of players have developed somewhat

I don't think I ever complained about Ryder in the series...except when he got out in that first test, but I wasn't having a go at him for his shot, more his attitude. And that completely changed in the second dig.

Why is anything that went on previously in the series relevant? We were playing to win/save games earlier in the series so the situation was completely different. The batsmen in the last innings of the second test had a chance to express themselves without critisism, and show everyone what they can do given the right situation, they didn't and instead batted for a not out next to their name.

Not often do you get the chance to score runs so freely in a test match, I thought they would/should have taken the opportunity.

Player A scores a rapid, carefree 15 off 10 balls
Player B scores 32* off 60 balls.

Who is more prepared to face Australia next month?

Why does "being more aggressive" or "showing intent to score runs" suddenly mean the batsman will smash a few quick runs, then get out?

Everyone here seems to think if Ryder or Redmond were looking for runs they would just magically fail. If that is the case, then they shouldnt be playing for NZ anyway. We don't need batsmen who will score 40 off 150 balls and then get out blocking anyway.

If they arent going to play their natural games in a completely pressure free environment, they when are they going to play their natural games? I don't believe for a second they will be better batsmen just blocking the ball constantly, though everyone else here seems to think differently.

As Jimmy said, the better batsman will score more runs against Australia, regardless of what they did in Bangladesh. Also, our batsmen were a hell of a lot slower than 32* off 60 balls in that second innings...try 30* off 89 balls.

Have you taken into consideration the pitch conditions?

Maybe it was slow and not coming onto the bat? Such pitch conditions mean that if you try to push it along, you are running the risk of holing out.

That's utter crap. While the pitch was slow it was absolutely as flat as a pancake, especially on that second (5th day) afternoon. To say scoring runs would have been difficult is laughable.

Ryder's first innings was a prime example of how easy it was to bat, and he got bogged once he reached 80 odd..and he still finished with a strike rate of 65.00...completely acceptable and how he should have batted in the second innings (if not faster, given the better pitch conditions and match situation).
