Lance Klusener- contender for greatest ODI allrounder- or at least all-time XI?

Lance Klusener surely was one of those players who could turn a match, or even a tournament, on its head. He was the player of the tournament in the 1999 World Cup, and could have won the Cup on his own had Donald not run him out. One look at those stats, and you wonder, what has he not done- a batting average of 41, strike rate of 90, and four scores over 100- and he had rather amazing ODI bowling stats- with six five-wicket hauls, striking at 38 and a bowling average a shade under 30. He couldn't quite make a mark in Test matches, but surely, he'd have a shout as the greatest ODI all-rounder, or at least make an all-time ODI XI, wouldn't he?

Does anyone else (with a decent amount of wickets and runs) average 40+ with the bat and less than 30 with the ball.

If he is the only one then statistically he deserves consideration in addition to his on field dramatic exploits.

He wouldnt be mine but he certainly had an amazing career.

Only ryan doeschate does, but he has only played 19 matches and taken 35 wickets. Not sure about opposition standard too.

The only other allrounder who comes close with decent number of matches is kallis with batting average of 44.5 and bowling average of 31.4 and darren lehman who has 52 wickets
at 27.78 ans 3078 runs at 38.96.

Edit-Forgot it was all time, Greg chappel also has scored 2331 runs at 40.18 and taken 72 wickets at 29.12.

So he does.

Despite some low quality ODIs, its pretty amazing.

In fact, 1 more good game and he could average over 50 with the bat and under 20 with the ball :-O

Very possibly. Intreguingly, for someone who was principally a bowler, he'd have the strongest case to play based on his batting.

Go figure.

Truly great ODI player. He was so ridiculously good in the '99 WC, was amazing. He and Warne dominated that tournament.

A true match winner. He was one of those players that gave you hope even when the team was struggling with the bat or if the asking rate was over 10 with 5 overs to go. Although his bowling suffered because of injury, he was effective with those off-cutters as a 4th/5th bowler. I loved the raw pace he had in the beginning of his career.

He could have had a higher batting average if he didn't open the batting.

Although he's not half the bowler Klusener was, Kallis is the all-rounder who I would want in my side. Klusener would probably be in the all time ODI XI though.

I was initially surprised by the support that Klusener has received on this thread. And then even more surprised to see how impressive his stats were. For a player as attacking and destructive as he was with the bat, an average of over 40 is very impressive indeed. And of the players in the list (batting ave over 35, bowling under 30) he has by far and away the most wickets.
