According to reports, Bangladesh's shoulders dropped any time a potentially substantial partnership appeared to be developing and taking the game away from them. So rather than grabbing the openings with both hands, they seemingly expected the inevitable. What can happen to a side that has taken so many poundings over the years.
yeah i have always opposed bangladesh's entry and current tenure in international cricket but i feel a little sorry for them right now...i still feel they need to burnish their credentials playing first class games in test-playing countries and then slowly work their way up once they start getting the measure of opponents at that level...this cannot be good for players' morale, generating more interest in youngsters and gaining a bigger talent pool, even expanding/improving infrastructure...they are a test team only in name right now, whatever talent they possess, they just don't have the confidence to exploit it now...

It's a difficult one isn't it ? Everyone suggests they'll only get better playing against better sides, but there does come a time when it really takes it toll, and basically shatters any semblance of confidence and they consequently do not know how to win cricket matches right now, even when opportunities arise, albeit infrequently.

I agree that a re-think is needed, and opposition of lesser quality essential if they are to re-build lost confidence, certainly in the longer version of the game, and learn what is necessary to sink sides when possible.

I think they are heading in the right direction and its still best if they are persevered with. Jamie Siddons knows what hes doing over there so they should get better but it will take time.

If Oram is out, who is going to get the nod? Southee or Elliott?
I dont really see Elliott as a test player, I would rather see him as a regular in the black uniform. I would like to see Southee play but they could both play if it isnt a spinners deck because they would drop Patel.

Yeah it would probably hurt more then Australia in 2006, since nobody expected anything from them, except cop a massive hiding.
Na, Australia hurt much more.

Nothing can overtake Multan though. Were just about the better team for that whole series and Pakistan kept getting out of jail. Had the third test in the bag before Inzy took the Pakistanis to a one wicket win. Gut-wrenching result.

It will have to be Elliott, our bating is the biggest worry, plus I hear the next game is being played on a slow low wicket so there really is no point bring in another seamer. Elliot and Redmond should be able to bowl quite a few overs between them.

I'd like to see Redmond get a few overs. When he hit the right length in Chittagong he extracted good turn and had the batsmen in trouble, unfortunately he didn't get enough overs to show what he can do.

AWTA. You would think eventually they will get a big Test scalp under their belt.

Elliot to get another Test Cap?

After his debut, I never wanted to see him get another Test again. However, after his ODI performances I am a little unsure of where I stand. I think he can be of great value in the 50 over game, but in Tests surely there is a better batsman who can play.

Yeah, agree to an extent. His batting looks ideally suited to working the ball around in the middle overs in one day cricket but if he uses that technique in Tests, I can see him nicking out a lot. Even if he has a totally different technique for four-day cricket, he looked truly awful on debut.. although the leading candidate to replace him in the squad (Fulton) has had his fair sure of moments in which he looked truly awful as well.

Either way, I'm pretty sure he's the only other batsman in the squad and he can offer a bit of bowling like Oram as well so he's the obvious pick. I'd have Fulton over him myself but he's not on tour.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Yeah, it's not like he's a long term solution. Although you never know, despite looking awful in his only test it could've been nerves, or the like. Might gun it and be a revelation as he has been in ODIs. But not good odds overall.

Who else have we got over there in the way of batsmen?
