There's better batsmen in Australia no doubt, but I guess they see this as an opportunity to give a younger bloke some experience because it seems highly unlikely he'll play a match. As often as people talk about it, I'd almost consider eating my computer the day the selectors move Hussey back up the order to open, such is the calmness he provides to the middle and lower order.

Marsh called up to replace Jaques

8-)

Every crappy Vic bowler and his dog gets a go in the national side but our worthy batsmen get overlooked??? What the hell?
Joke

I'd actually have more respect for the selectors if they told it like it is - "done nothing to justify the selection, hopefully won't be needed anyway but it's one for the future."

Anyway, what possible experience is to be gained from flying half way around the world and back again, not playing, all the while missing out on batting in a competition where he's currently struggling

To my knowledge Sachin bats awfully good left handed as well. I have seen him once at the BCCI bat left handed for some reason.
Great on sarcasm - low on content. If you read full posts instead of catching a few words which allow you to put in a 'smart' repartee, you would have realised that I had also mentioned in the post just preceding that one

I think Sachin should have come in at four instead of Ganguly. At that stage with the lead alrady 425, left-right combination argument had no meaning and in any even Ganguly's poor running between the wickets would more than discount any advantage one may think a left hander offered.

The only way Victorian batsmen are going to be selected for Australia is to sack the Australian selectors and have selections done by internet polling.

Disagree. All their batsman should bleach their hair and attempt to bowl leg'spin'. Much better chance of getting into the XI.

"This will be the last time I will be preparing a Test wicket. I have a one-day match against England before I call it quits,"

"This will be my parting gift to Kumble. Even though he has risen to great heights as a cricketer, Kumble is a lovely human being at heart. Whenever he comes to Delhi he always takes time out to sit and chat with me. I've always made wickets that suit Kumble and this time it won't be any different."

That's from the curator in Delhi who's retiring after the aforementioned ODI against England. Itstl.

Might as well prepare a turning track and seal the series at Delhi. There's no telling what Nagpur will throw up.

A glance at the pitch in Kotla already reveals cracks which threaten to grow wider. The track hasn't been watered over the past week and the grass cover on it has turned yellow under the weight of medium rollers. "Preparing a Test wicket is an art. The wicket has to last all five days and, at the end of it, there has to be an outcome. This wicket against Australia will give some assistance to seamers initially but the spinners can come into play as early as on third-day morning," Sharma said. "There will be no dust on the wicket but the ball will tend to grip further the pitch and get more turn. There'll be a bit of uneven bounce with the wear and tear."

Sharma believes that Kumble can exploit that unevenness in the surface. "He hits a different length than any other spinner or fast bowler and, with some help from the pitch, Kumble can run through

Reserve judgement until the Test but if all he's done is not water the deck so it'll start playing up on day 1, that's a poor Test wicket in my book. I couldn't think of anything more boring than watching batsmen on both sides play with ultra-caution because the ball is spitting and scoring at 2 RPO because they can't hit it off the square.

Besides, it'd be patently unnecessary for India to do that; they just annihilated Aus on the flattest deck imaginable. If they can win by 300+ on that pitch, they can win on anything.

I could. Sehwag scoring 300 with blindfolds on like he did against South Africa. That's boring.

I love this stuff. Batsmen have it too easy. Let them scratch some runs. I also want to see 200-300 scores instead of 450+ being par.

Actually, losing the toss and a wicket like this may come back to bite India in the ass. I'd still support these wickets if it does. I hate flat pitches, even if we win.

Same reason I gave for wanting to see the Perth of Old.

you must have loved the rest [those who didn't get the opportunity to bat with Sehwag] of the batting struggle and collapse on that pitch, i guess

good news about the pitch as India needs to close the series at Delhi but from a cricketing perspective, it would be sad to see lame horses like Kumble pick up some wkts because of the pitch and walk out of it as if they have achieved something remarkable

this is like you deliberately temper with the course so other fast horses cannot run fast so that the experienced lame horses is able to compete

I guess a sporting pitch is enough to make them go 2-0 up!!!
