I'd love to see Stewart on the wing as well. To me he looks like a natural winger more than he does a fullback.
Do you really AWTA Speirz?

He is a terrific creative player who would be wasted on the wing. Sure, he'd handle it, but why put him on the wing?

Yeah, I honestly do. I don't see him as a creative fullback like Hunt or Gidley, he just runs the right lines at the right time, looping around the centre or cutting into the middle of the ruck. It's something which I think would be just as valuable on the wing, cutting inside his centre or staying out. He just strikes me as someone who could really position himself well out there, more so than the likes of Hayne, Tate and Williams. Fullback is his best position for Manly, but when there are better fullbacks in front of him for Australia I think we can still utilise him.

I had no idea until the other day that Brent Webb's injury was to do with his spinal cord! That's some serious stuff. I hope he recovers fully, one of the best in the world on his day.

Given league's relaxed attitude to eligibility I'm surprised Hunt hasn't been called up as a replacement...

Anyway, England warm up with a predictable, but quite impressive 74-0 thrashing of the overmatched Welsh. Report from the BBC.

What are the rules on eligibility in League?
What Jamee said. :p

Nah, it's pretty much the same as union (birth/parent/grandparent or three years continuous residence immediately before debut) but where it differs is that you can move between countries seemingly at will.

For instance Jarryd Hayne played for Australia last year & is now in the Fiji squad thanks to his mum and Mark Calderwood (who'd previously played for England) was named in the Scotland squad initially (thanks to a Scots grandparent) but is now in the England squad after selection.

With union (as with football) once you've played at test or "A" level you're permanently commited to that country.

But isn't it only the case come World Cup time? Lote Tuqiri played for Fiji in the 2000 WC, then for Australia in League and now for Australia in rugby (I'm well aware that what happened in league is irrelevent in rugby).

Yes & no. Kafusi played a non-WC international for Italy, I think. It's mainly just for the world cup tho, yes, but I think that's because the dual-internationals like Robertson & Logan would never be able to play in Scotland's other games because of their NRL commitments even if they could be arsed at all.

What's pretty funny is Toupu being selected for Tonga and then getting called up to Australia to replace Crocker.

Hodges in doubt, Cooper on stand by, given how **** Hodges has been this year we wont lose much there. Would much prefer Cooper in our starting line up than Brent Tate too.

17. Kurt Gidley
Players Missed out and why.
Terry Campese- As much as i'd want him to be in the team, wouldn't be able to fit into 5/8th or halfback due to depth. Best chance will be when Australia is playing Fiji. Also, doesn't have the versatilityto be namedon bench.
 Yet you named Gidley on the bench. Gidley can play fullback and five-eighth, people thinking he can play anywhere else are having a laugh.

Campese can play five-eighth, centre, lock, second row (in fact he'd a do a bettr job in the back row than others in the squad) and hooker at a pinch (probably abut as well as Gidley which isn't too crash hot). But your utility needs to be a forward first and back/half second, Campese offers that option. All Gidley does is make you take Smith off, which will be detrimental to the team.

I'd love to see Stewart on the wing as well. To me he looks like a natural winger more than he does a fullback.
I agree, but a world cup isn't the time to experiment with **** like that. Origin however..NSW would be heaps better like this:

1 Kurt Gidley
2 Brett Stewart

Creative player he is not IMO. It is no coincidence NSW's attack has been so ordinary since he has been our fullback. Gidley needs to be there.

Hodges in doubt, Cooper on stand by, given how **** Hodges has been this year we wont lose much there. Would much prefer Cooper in our starting line up than Brent Tate too.
Monaghan is better than both of them IMO.

TBH the times when Campese come off the bench and played in the backrow, centres and hooker he hasn't been that effective as he is in the halves. Granted he is a lot better player then back when he couldn't get into the side ahead of Jason Smith. But it not like he has the track record to suggest he is a super utility and better option then Gildey. Like Gildey it is based purely on potential in the limited times he played in other positions. When he been there for a long time he has been quite average, like Gildey.

Reckon Cooper would be a good option on wing as well. Though we no that the selectors never play anyone slight out of position. Even if he made his rep debut for County as a winger. Had more pace back then, but it not like Tate any faster these days.

Pretty sure I had Monnas in my starting side, even before Hodges was in doubt. His form is good now but I don't think theres much creditbility to the claim Monaghan is better than Tate and Cooper. Not yet at least.

Monaghan's advantage in this squad is that he is a great winger and a very good centre. The selectors seem to like size as well. I reckon we will see:

2 Monaghan (would attack in this position, but swap with GI in defence)
3 Inglis
4 Hodges/Tate
5 Folau
