WTF is Smith batting 3 for? Hopeless to put him there IMO.

Ah, the great NSW number 3s - Bradman, Kippax, O'Neill, S Waugh and D Smith.

**** house.

Thought he was playing alright today, not a number three at this stage of his career, but if Thornley doesnt want to bat there then why not Smith?

Find me a man who doesn't love Peter Forrest and I'll show you a man who hasn't seen him bat.

Really hope he tons up here.

Now Thornley will bat 6, seems pretty silly to me, 3/60 odd is when you want your most senior batsman in.

Haha, I'm such a jinx sometimes. I post that and he plays one of the most awful shots of all time to get out stumped off Heal about an over later.

Thornely batting #6 (or maybe below!) is ridiculous with all the young blokes in the team. Thornely himself used to open when he first made the team so it's not like he's never batted up the order before FFS.

I don't think Hughes is yet suited to One Day cricket either at this level.
I think he is too good to not pick right now. He played some really good shots today but maybe got a bit carried away. The only things that will stop him averaging 35+ with a 75+ strike rate in One Day cricket are mental.

I don't think Dan Smith, Steve Smith or O'Keefe really are either; not as specialist top order batsmen anyway. Even Forrest is debatable due to his mechanical batting style, as much as I love the bloke. You have to pick someone though.

Yeah for sure. I just don't want to see Hughes's early career go downhill because he was made to play too much limited overs stuff.

Yeah Heal's been really good today.
Have always liked him. When I saw him at Adelaide in the PM's XI against the SL's, he took 3 poles and aside from those was the only bowler all day who even looked threatening. Was great watching him bowl.

Then you might also recall Cullen Bailey being absolutely taken apart? Was amazing hitting by Jayasuriya and co.

Yes and no. Jayasuriya batted relatively well but Bailey served up some unforgiveable tripe that day. Short long-hops generally go the distance in Adelaide and it's telling that probably all of the sixes off Bailey were cross-batted swipes into the Evans stand. When Heal came on, the SL batsmen played with a lot more caution after they'd spent all morning belting the others. It was because Heal was on a length pretty much straight away. Bowled really well on a day that was clouded over and should have suited the pacers a lot.
