*Official* English Football Season 2008-2009

Basing that on Crouch performing for Liverpool.
Yeah but Crouch has actually had the chance to play for a top four club. They're completely different players and thus hard to compare anyway, but IMO if Defoe went to a top four club he'd distinguish himself far more than Crouch did.

Haha, Crouch elite, Defoe isn't.

They're both on the same level, decent enough but not top-4 quality, like say a Chris Armstrong/Dean Holdsworth/Kevin Campbell
Haha, nice attempt at winding me up. I know you're not stupid enough to rate any of those players. Good use of mediocre 90s players, though.

Charlie, what's the score?
Charlie Charlie, what's the score?

Fans were excellent, couldn't hear the Blackburn lot at all, anyway a good professional win, could really have been a lot more.

Holdsworth could have been decent too, if not for injuries. I think they were fair comparisons, but I'm not exactly Defoes biggest fan. Sub-standard first touch and his movement isn't world-class either.

Anyway, play-off place for the mighty Grecians, this football league lark is dead easy, really:)

Nah, big Kev Campbell would've played for England if he'd been born ten years later. Great physical presence and better first touch than Defoe too.
Yeah, tbf Campbell was the one I was most hesitant about given I (probably) never saw him at his best. The fact that he won a league winners' medal would suggest that he was once a good player, however by the time I was interested in the game he was no longer even in the top division, so I'd guess he was probably past his best by the time I saw him.

I give up, I literally give up with you. Bracketing Defoe with Taylor is utterly ludicrous.
Not if you look at the fact that there seems to a bit of a irritating stigma in the England management that has caught up with Mr.Capello, that a natural left-footed player must be in the squad even if he is garbage (Downing). So as i said before, Taylor is best left-footed English player in the country so why not pick him.

But ATM of course i wouldn't pick Taylor, since Young is the best performing left-midfield in the land even if its not his natural position & i'm 90% sure he'll be picked for next weekend's internationals.

Not sure Taylor's anywhere near the England squad TBH, I think he's gone backwards since he left Pompey. He'll never be the same player he was in 2002-03 really, he suffered a heel injury towards the end of that season and since then he's lost his ability to run with the ball. As good a player as he has the potential to be, I think his career has stagnated and at this stage Downing is probably just as good an option, if not better.

Downing gash against Andorra, tbf. Not convinced he's of the requisite quality.

Well i wasn't aware of any injuries he had in his career, but he certainly has been impressive quite recently no doubt about it. Up the the end of last season when he scored two goals againts the gunners Brumby should remember this.

When Muntari was signed to Pompey in the 07/08 season or from January of the 06/07 season? Not totally sure, but coming off a very good 06/07 season IMO at least, when he had to superb performance againts United when Pompey won 2-1 @ Fratton Park, the best peformance i've seen from a natural left-footed british player outside Giggsy for once (an example i've used b4 here).

But Redknapp suddenly benched him for Muntari the next season, then sold him in January. So tbh i don't think he has lost form, he has lost game time. Should have been capped at least Under McClaren for some of the Euro 08 qualifiers thats for sure.

But now i'd say his time has passed, unless has i just said Capello feels a natural left-footed winger is really that important to have in the squad.

Oh & Downing should not be seen in an England shirt again until he does a Gareth Barry like transformation.

Was the one i was most hesistant about putting in. He did have a decent partnership with Wright at times, then had that killer end to the season at Everton.
But to be fair, Armstrong was the only touch of class at Palace that season he was there when they went down as well being good at Spurs for the first season.
Holdsworth always scored 10 a season for Wimbledon, makes sense he ended up at Bolton later on.

Nearly ended up sticking the likes of Noel Whelan and Julian Joachim on there.

Anyway, Rubble, I've a bone to pick with your lot:@

Apparently you had a scout at St James' looking at Danny Seaborne and two other possibilities. Keep your thieving hands off, we've already lost Georgie so far this season, don't want any fancy nobs from the prem upsetting our lads, we've a promotion to sort out before anyone else goes:mad:

Me and mates incorporated naming mediocre 90s footballers into a drinking game recently. Names that came up included John Fashanu, Ruel Fox, Tomas Brolin, and others. Was hilarious.

Wouldn't read much into it, Redknapp probably has scouts everywhere. Although having said that, we don't have much money to spend so it makes sense that we're looking to the lower divisions.

EDIT: What's this Seaborne lad like, anyway?

Well, it was reported that he was your chief-scout, whatever that means.

He's a decent player, but still learning his trade. He's certainly not good enough at present to think of playing Prem football, but like Friend, he has all the attributes, speedy, good in the air and strong in the tackle and he can play a bit too. Matt Taylor (the superior one) is at present the better player though, so not sure if he makes danny look better then he is. Yet Seabornes the one with youth and pace.

Harleys:wub: our best player by far though, but don't tell anyone:unsure:
