Pretty even at the moment. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out, have to say. Hoping Kerr can pass 50 in his next innings (no pressure, mate ;)), he deserves this opportunity and should make the most of it.

Hussey sets up exciting finish
2nd Test - Day 3 - CW Oval

A composed 75 from Mike Hussey set up a total of 345 and a target of 284 for Cricket Web XI to win the second Test. The left-hander played a variety of delightful offside shots on his way to the score and stood firm while his team always looked likely to crumble around him.

Shot! - Hussey on the drive

The CW XI fast bowlers started well and made use of the morning moisture. Nightwatchman Clark was not allowed the chance to frustrate, lbw to Demeza for 8. The Aussie captain then came and went to an excellent ball that cut back into the pads at high pace and trapped him lbw. The Webbers fought on to remove Simon Katich for 42, caught third slip, and Australia were in tatters, leading by only 61 with 4 down.

They recovered somewhat through a 65-run fifth wicket stand but on 186, Michael Clarke (24) pulled Wilson to the midwicket fielder. Aggression was then the aim of the game with the arrival of Andrew Symonds. The allrounder played with freedom and his innings culminated with a thumping shot for six over midwicket. The next ball he was lbw for 34. The depth of Australian batting was tested and the lower order put up a good fight to try to miraculously recover Australia's position. They knew that they only needed a total over 250 to be competitive, and Hussey was central to achieving that goal. Crucially he received the support of 44 from Ashley Noffke, and Australia scored 345 all out.

CW XI then set out in the chase of 284 and again Thamba Mamesh set the pace. Always true to his natural instincts he was off to a flying start against the pace of Brett Lee. The bowling was not in any way loose, but Mamesh latched onto anything marginally short and collected two fours and six from the third over of the innings. Mørk was deceived and dismissed by Clarke for 21 but that was the lone success before stumps. Mamesh cruised to 50 and finished unbeaten on 47. With him was Pete Young, not out on 15.

Looking forward to Clarke bowling more in India, so his bowling average is on par with his ability.

Thamba to do what he does best here. Score runs when it counts and win us this Test.

Kerr and Wilson resist excellent Clark
2nd Test - Day 4, Session 1 - CW Oval

The fate of Cricket Web XI in the second Test will hinge largely on the efforts of Will Kerr, in just his second Test match. The batsman stood tall with Mike Wilson after Stuart Clark decimated the middle order with the old ball. The Aussie fast bowler mixed accuracy and movement and took 3 wickets to help restrict CW XI to 186-5. But by the time the session was complete, the sixth wicket stand was worth 41 and CW XI were back on track.

The game could have been done and dusted, however, had Australia held their chances. Instead Brett Lee was the first at fault by dropping Wilson on 2. The mistake denied McGain his first wicket of the match and interrupted the Australian momentum. Wilson was dropped again by Haddin on 3 and he took his luck to heart. From the next 43 balls he faced he scored an upbeat 29 runs and dominated the pairing heading into the break. Kerr was not to be overlooked though. His was a near chanceless innings and laced with outstanding the shots. The best of them was a firm on-drive that took him into the 40s, where he remained at lunch.

CW XI go one up; Kerr sublime
2nd Test - Day 4, Session 2 - CW Oval

Mature beyond his years, and having shaken off a disastrous debut, Will Kerr guided Cricket Web XI to a 1-0 lead in the Test series against Australia. His average improved beyond 30 for the first time, as he played beautifully for 77 not out. For a time in the morning CW XI looked to be struggling along, but by the afternoon session all the demons had departed from the pitch and Kerr stood up like a man high on confidence and with a clear goal in mind. He lost the company of Mike Wilson for 46, but progressed unphased in the chase of Australia's challenging target.

"Come on!" - Will Kerr yelled after hitting the winning boundary

Brett Lee returned to get Nick Borcich to nick to the wicketkeeper, but by then it seemed too little and too late. Neil Pickup took guard in the batting form of his life and with 8 needed to complete the match. It would have been a perfect finish if he, the CW XI captain, had been able to hit the winning runs. But this was the day of Kerr, and he chipped down the pitch to loft Stuart Clark over mid-off and win the game with four runs. The authoritative shot was exactly what was needed to send the crowd into glorious cheers and applause.

Great stuff by the inexperienced Kerr. Wilson vital with bat and ball as well. A great win, go CW!

Also, Ponting is my bunny. Have dismissed him at least once in every test we've played, IIRC.
