Jamie How, Ross Taylor. What's up with the Black caps changing the captain every next game, shouldn't they be grooming a guy as captain who they think in future could lead the side.
Enough said.

As is the case with Uthappa, Karthik, Patel, Goswami and all those U-19 players, he's too raw for the top drawer. He's a good pick for this level, as he can learn a lot. He started his career as an opener, but when all of Delhi's top four batsmen are openers, he obviously had little chance of making it as an opener, and eventually batted in the higher middle-order. He's not out of it completely, but just in a different zone. Asnodkar, though, is worth his place in the A team and could use these series to learn a lot; he has the right raw material for a limited-overs batsman. Uthappa's issues are more about brains than skills.Tbf to him, he has got run out twice in the series, and his List A stats are also decent so he kind of deserved this chance but sadly he hasn't made the most of it, though i would have advocated picking Dhawan (if he was fit) ahead of Uthappa, seriously with the kind of technique Uthappa has i can't see him opening the batting with much success.
Its kind of surprising why selectors always somehow manage to ignore Dhawan, when he was coming up through the U-19 ranks he was rated pretty highly in Indian cricketing circles, but in general too its surprising that he isn't even in contention for a national spot atm.
Wow...NZ have turned to absolute **** in this tourny.
NZ 144 all out. Fulton 65, Hay 36, White 4/34.
The IPL was complete rubbish. How anyone can justify picking players from a 20/20 tournament is beyond me.
The standard of cricket greatly diminishes with the less overs you have in a game.
- The standard of cricket at IPL was far better than in any of the Indian domestic seasons in the last ten years, and had the cream of international cricket converging.
- The best players of the time did well in the IPL and IPL finds for other countries (Watson, Shaun Marsh, Dave Hussey, Dwayne Bravo, Dale Steyn) are doing well for their teams.
- You can only choose from what you have, and this is the best of what you have.
- We're talking one-day cricket. This is not a Test match!
That's an odd comment. He was absolutely nowhere near Australian selection before the IPL, and was certainly no sure thing of playing for Australia.Admittedly the IPL helped Shaun Marsh, but he was touted as a future Australian prospect long before he joined the IPL. He would have played for Australia regardless.
He was already picked in the one-day squad to tour the West Indies before the IPL started. He would have played anyway, IPL or no IPL.That's an odd comment. He was absolutely nowhere near Australian selection before the IPL, and was certainly no sure thing of playing for Australia.
AWTA, Marsh was no where near the Australian team before the IPL, he was considered as an exciting prospect right from a very young age, but all this while he never really converted that potential into performance, but he proved that he has what it takes to come good at the global stage during the IPL and that' what really made the selectors take notice. That's an odd comment. He was absolutely nowhere near Australian selection before the IPL, and was certainly no sure thing of playing for Australia.
I am not too sure about that, he might have played one or two games if Aussies would have wrapped the series in the first 3 Odi's itself, but at the start of the series they might have opted for Hopes or Clarke or maybe even Hussey to open the innings with Hayden (if he would have been fit), i think most people don't realise that Marsh ain't an opener, he has batted in the middle order for WA, but it was during IPL he just burst onto the scene and showed he can bat as an opener too, and IPL also gave Marsh the confidence and belief that he belongs at the top level of the game, even if it was only a T20 tournament, it would given him tremendous self-belief.He was already picked in the one-day squad to tour the West Indies before the IPL started. I'm not saying the IPL didn't help him, I'm saying he was in a 14-man squad for an ODI series picked before the IPL, and also had just been given his first central contract. So to say he was 'nowhere near the team' is obviously not true.I am not too sure about that, he might have played one or two games if Aussies would have wrapped the series in the first 3 Odi's itself, but at the start of the series they might have opted for Hopes or Clarke or maybe even Hussey to open the innings with Hayden (if he would have been fit), i think most people don't realise that Marsh ain't an opener, he has batted in the middle order for WA, but it was during IPL he just burst onto the scene and showed he can bat as an opener too, and IPL also gave Marsh the confidence and belief that he belongs at the top level of the game, even if it was only a T20 tournament, it would given him tremendous self-belief.
He is still pretty ****ty with ball tbt, but his accuracy has somewhat improved from whatever i have been able to see of him in the last 2 series, i think its more due to the fact that he seems to be working a lot more on his bowling in recent times, because he seems to have realised that unless his bowling improves a bit, there isn't much hope for him to break into the national side purely as a batsman.Anyone been watching the recent series or Bangladesh games? Has White's bowling improved as his figures suggest he has or is the lack of quality opposition making him look good?
Yep, Marsh was nowhere near the team before IPL and I seriously cant believe that the guy has leapfrogged muuuuuuuuch better players like Chris Rogers on the back of a mickey mouse tournament - the guy is lucky to still be in the WA side ffsIPL began April 18 according to Wiki.
Australian ODI squad was announced June 3 according to Cricinfo.
Dunno where your info came from.
EDIT: Nevermind. Cricinfo is being silly. That surprises me that SOS got an ODI callup on the back of half a good season.
Rogers as an Odi player?! You must be kidding, right?Yep, Marsh was nowhere near the team before IPL and I seriously cant believe that the guy has leapfrogged muuuuuuuuch better players like Chris Rogers on the back of a mickey mouse tournament - the guy is lucky to still be in the WA side ffs
His selection is based on potential, nepotism and has ZERO to do with performance IMO
Was there for experience from all reports. Doing well in IPL gave him a spot in the team and Social's right on one count, was just holding onto his WA spot when he was picked.I'm not saying the IPL didn't help him, I'm saying he was in a 14-man squad for an ODI series picked before the IPL, and also had just been given his first central contract. Yet all of the 20/20 specialists in the 20/20 WC failed and the blokes of Test quality were the ones who did well. And, I might add, as the fielding and bowling tactics of 20/20 have evolved, guys who blindly slog are proving to be less effective over the time and leaving their sides. As I said before, picking players because they performed in a hit and giggle 20/20 competition is stupid. A batsman can swing with their eyes closed and if they connect a few times then they have had a fantastic innings...this does not make that player a good batsman.
To start with, I'm not saying the IPL didn't help him with selection in the team,. I'm saying that if you're picked in a 14-man squad for a five-match tour before the IPL, then you're not 'absolutely nowhere near the team' at that point. Was there for experience from all reports. Pretty much proves these guys are talking out of their arse. And secondly, Marsh was WA's player of the year. Again, a very strange award for someone just holding onto their spot. Topped the T20 and FR cup run lists, and averaged 60 in first class cricket.
