Ha, slang for gun. Since i think the stubborn ignorance he displays shows he has gang temperament. But lets not get into that cause the mods won't approve i believe.

That's First-Class cricket - completely irrelevant. Incidentally, he's had 1 very good First-Class game all season (on a pitch that seemed to be exceedingly seam-friendly) and virtually nothing besides.

In one-day cricket, the game-form of relevance, IIRR his economy-rate has been about 4.7-an-over, which is far too much. He should be going for less than 4-an-over and has had quite a few seasons where he's managed to do precisely such a thing.

Averaging 28 with the ball in the championship, but that's hardly the point as I don't think anyone is tipping him for the Test side.
LOL, yes fellas i know his FC stats mean nothing but if his bowling had fallen of so badly since the NZ strip as suggested. Surely he wouldn't have even been able to do that?

The crazy thing is he hasn't been selected all summer & now misses out on these ODI's, yes the ODI side is looking very good ATM but Mascarenhas should be in no doubt ahead of Wright who i have hope for, but is not the finished article at yet & is being wated @#8 anyway.

I'm really not fussed who bats at 8 out of those two. If Wright comes in with just a few overs left then I think he can actually be dangerous, we all know Mascarenhas can be as well, and neither will need to do much with the ball with our current line-up IMO.

Mascarenhas is potentially a better ODI bowler than Harmison and Anderson - much better.

He hasn't been to date, though
Well he briefly looked like it in the summer of 2007, but yeah as I say he's been poor this summer, inexplicably didn't get a chance in SL in conditions that'd have probably suited him down to the ground and suffered like Swann from the mis-shapen grounds in NZ.

He's going to be be playing one-day and 20/20 matches for Otago in the NZ domestic season be interesting to see how he goes

He is? Excellent, that's a chance for him to knock himself back into some good economy-rates. Hopefully he can grab it, then hit the ground running in 2009.

Provided he doesn't come-up against McCullum too often of course.

McCullum moved to Canterbury, however your not completely wrong as Nathan McCullum still plays for Otago :p

I'm finding it very hard to believe this, and a quick google search reveals nothing. Where'd you find this out from?

Haha:wallbash: 'course. He started at Otago, went to Canterbury in '03-04 and stayed 'til '07/08, then he went back to Otago. My apologies

NO hoggard & Simon Jones
The former was always inevitable - you're hardly going to give a central contract to someone you overlooked in favour of Darren Pattinson the previous summer - and the latter was always less likely than more. Jones has most certainly merited selection and I'd be a bit disappointed if he didn't get it sometime soon, but you can't really be giving contracts to someone who hasn't played for over 3 years.

Disappointed not to see Hoggard at least getting a half-way house contract here. Is he that far down the pecking order now? :(

Think of all the bowlers who were ahead of Darren Pattinson at Victoria last summer.

And then realise truly how far down the pecking-order he has gone. As I say - a contract of any sort was always OOTQ at this juncture. Someone, somewhere, for some abstract reason, has simply decided he's never going to play for England again.

I begin to wonder, TBH, whether there isn't more to this than meets the eye. Hoggard and MSP, for instance, obviously never got-on well.
