The only change i'd make to the above would be Steyn as Test player of the year, with Chanderpaul as overall player of the year. Steyn stood out head and shoulders above all other quicks in the Test match season, and his mixture of extreme pace and late swing was a breath of fresh air

That would be a good idea.

Still can't believe Pattinson never got a look-in

No Lee for Test player or cricketer of the year award is ridiculous, though. Seriously, it's a joke.

Pretty safe to say Edwards of England will win womens player of the year too. In 2008 ODI's she scored 494 runs@61.75 and took 15 wickets@16.86. I used to go to school with Nicola Browne, not sure how she managed to get a nomination though..

That logic is faulty. All his runs were against top quality opposition too. Why should be he penalised for scoring more runs per innings?
Well the ICC haven't always been the most logical bunch. Sehwag definately should have got a Test nominaton over Jayawardene/Kallis. I don't think those time frames on my links are directly realted to the award category though soz

Not Terrible
Bit disappointed at Southee not getting the emerging nomination and McCullum not getting a ODI player one.

Yeah, but Southee didn't play many games compared to the rest. He will qualify for next year you would think

Cricketer of the Year : S Chanderpaul

Bracken ODI player of the year? Haha, suppose there were no other Aussies:laugh: Found this on CricInfo, surely must be in the same time frame as the nominations were based on..

Most Test runs 2008
Most Test wickets 2008
Most ODI runs 2008
Most ODI wickets 2008

The actual time frame:
Test runs
Test wickets
ODI runs
ODI wickets

Not too much at fault in the ICC's nominations, except I'd probably nominate five players as opposed to four.

Cheers for that :) Kallis & Jayawardene definately deserved their nominations. No question Brett Lee done enough to warrant nomination of cricketer of the year. Have revised my picks after reading that

Cricketer of the Year: Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Test Player of the Year: Jaques Kallis
ODI Player of the Year: Mohammad Yousuf

Hope we don't win the spirit of cricket one tbh. Its too bloody patronising and the only teams that always play nice are the minnows anyway. Pointless award.

Yeah it's a bit 'everybody gets a trophy day' isnt' it?

Yeah, definitely. It's one we're always nominated for as well, as a nice "sorry you didn't get any other nominations" gesture.

I dunno, in 2005 we had the joint player of the year, the ODI player of the year, the emerging player of the year, & Flintoff & Pietersen named in world XIs but we also took home the spirit of cricket award. I don't think it necessarily is a token award. I'm sure Ricky Ponting would have had some words to say about us taking the 05 award mind you - and I'm sure Burgey would as well :D
