Will be boycotting this thread for sure. Maybe not if Bracken is selected for a Test. But only maybe.
Well there is an outside chance that Heal might get picked for this series, in absence of Casson and McGain due to injury.

Expecting the quality of posting to reach an all time low during this series, especially if recent form is any indication.
I'm excited for this series and for reading the thread, but seriously, can we not just put a blanket ban on talking about the Sydney Test, Symonds-Harbhajan, etc.? Or at least a seperate thread for it?
What Sydney Test?

Will be popping in from time to time if it doesn't get too...heated. The "Symonds sent home" thread drifted in that direction, I guess that's a sign of things to come. Hopefully the cricket will be fairly contested and can do the talking.

While still holding out hope for Symonds, really want to get Tait in their somewhere if he looks good in the A-Team ODI's coming up. Plus i may probably go for only 1 spinner too.

Haven't heard anyone talk about Hodge... didn't he play the last test and do okay or something?

Yeah, i'd forgotten about him too actually. He simply has to be in the squad, surely.
Mate, Hodge has zero chance of being picked ahead of Katich- therefore, there is no room in the squad for him, as there's no way they'll pick seven batsmen plus Watson in a 14 man squad.

I actually think that India will win this series. Their batting, with Symonds gone, and Ponting a dud on Indian pitches, is better than ours, and Kumble and Harbajhan will own us in batting. Plus, we don't have a quality spinner, if Clarke's our best option, we have STTSTL.

I m not the one to build castles in the air. Judging by how the Indians have performed in tests against RSA and SL, it would be a tough task for them to be competitive

Apart form Sachin, no one in the middle order looks good enough to score a 100 .... Bhajji is looking like the most threatening Indian spinner which probably tells about Kumble's downward journey than Bhajji's climb

I don't like Banglore as a test venue as I have seen India lose there on many occasions. In the last 6 tests that India have played at Banglore, they have lost 4 and drawn 2. Their last win there was against NZ in 1995. Won't be surprised if Ind lose another one there and with the Australians going 0-1 up, the pressure would be on the Indians for the remaining games

to summarize, the negatives India is probably starting with
- out-of-form aging players who are more like liability than asset. their struggles make watching test cricket a pain than pleasure
- first test at B'lore
- Bhajji looking the most threatening of Indian spinners

I won't be surprised if this one turns out to be another Sehwag show!!!!

Interesting stat re Bangalore. What is it about the venue that makes India struggle there, or is more a historical oddity they haven't done well in the past?

Think you're pretty close with that squad.

Heard last week Casson was supposed to be injured. Anyone know if that's right?

Been a mud build up for Australia with Ponting and Hayden injured and Symonds and Lee unavailable for the Bangas. India deserving favouritism at home I'd have thought.

Whatever it takes!!!

Mainly because the toss becomes pretty crucial there.. and I guess at times, the conditions have aided the swing bowlers.. like Kasprowicz in 1998. Even Adam Dale looked pretty threatening in that match.. But mostly, I think it is more of a bizarre coincidence than any real hard and fast reason..

Pretty much what I would take. Maybe find room for Noffke.

Looking forward to this series.. Could go either way. Hard to say who's favourite for me. Both teams having few problems. If they are turning pitches than india to sneak the series 2-1 otherwise wouldn't be surprised if Aus win this one.

This was the last Australian test squad... I presume there won't be too many changes. Presumably only the italics players may be changed. This squad was 15 players so it may also be cut to 14 (depends what they think about players fitness).

Hayden
Jaques
Ponting
Clarke
Hodge (brought in as cover for Clarke then Hayden)
Symonds
Katich
Haddin
Lee
Clark
Johnson
Noffke
Bollinger (replaced Hilfenhaus)
Casson
MacGill
