Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
They were legends in their own ways, weren't they?
Yeah, due to their excellence on the cricket field. Making a movie based on their lives isn't a great idea, there hasn't been enough controversy. Akhtar or Warne maybe, but not those three.

Not imo. People seeing it would simply shrug & think what an idiot, but there's no major issues there that genuinely merit a film.

For mine:
- D'Oliveira & SA up to their exclusion
- Bradman and/or Bodyline
- daylight
- anything else you care to mention

Of course, there's loads of players & series that would make excellent documentaries.

Cricket amidst the 90s in India or Pakistan would provide more than enough fodder for a Bollywood movie with matchfixing, hot ladies. Amidst this a (short) hero starts tall. I've heard many apocryphal stories of how the Sharjah Coca Cola Trophy prefinals in 98 were fixed to be lost by Azhar, Jadeja and Mongia. And how, Tendulkar 'singlehandely' spoiled their plans with that blistering 143 despite that terrible sandstorm. That one can be fictionalised to a movie with a bit of background story workup.

There's already a Shane Warne musical. Can't see why there wouldn't be a movie at some point.

There's a great film in there somewhere, I'm sure. I suspect when Insole & Bedser (god forbid) pass away a few more of the facts surrounding that fateful selection meeting will be aired.

Would also love to see a revisionist film about Jardine & Bradman, with the stiff-backed occidental-born war-hero respected by friend & foe alike contrasted against the grasping and slightly disingenous little man from the bush who had a somewhat less distinguished war & who would spend his lifetime sullying the former's reputation.

I'm so glad you said all that.

Maybe there's also mileage in a film culminating with India's 1983 WC win against the WI. Perhaps it already exists in India.

A movie on the Bob Blair/Tangiwai disaster would be a truly inspirational/heartbreaking story...

Oh, yeah. If you have to consider those criterias, make movies on Warne, Akhtar, Bhajji and others which aren't coming to my mind on the spur of the moment.

Yes.

The other tragic NZ episode that comes to mind is the life & way too early death of Ken Wadsworth. Probably not quite enough for a movie though.

Tony Grieg could have a Forrest Gump like movie based on the passing of the years and alf the countries he has claimed to be part of and cricketing events he has witnessed and been a part of.

The trouble with this project is that if the plot were to be accurate the film would be of no interest at all to anyone other than cricket fans so it is guaranteed not to be in order to have any chance of succeeding at the box office

That taken as read it may still be watchable but only if they learn from that diabolical bodyline thing and either use actual archive footage for the action or cast it with actors who can actually play the game to a decent standard
That being said, Hugo Weaving was malevolent enough to generate hatred among Australian bogans, some of whom apparently wanted to kick his head in when they saw him.
