18.23 According to Radio Marca in Spain, Manchester City have now made a bid for Real Madrid striker Robinho, who has asked to be allowed to join Chelsea. Who will City bid for next?

Think people are just throwing random names into the equation and linking them with City. Part of me wants Berbatov (just to enjoy one over on the rags), another part thinks Villa would be more effective, not seen much of Gomez, and now Robinho!! Who else before midnight ?

Berbatov having medical at United or something, even though they haven't agreed a fee, this is madness. Love it. No Eastenders for me tonight, SSN

Torres out for 2 to 3 weeks with Gerard also out not looking good for the game against Man Utd for the Scousers

Ah didn't realise you were a Citeh fan Paul, fair contingent on this board then
I am indeedy! Was at Eastlands for the professional display against West Ham last week.
Gonna be a really interesting last 4 and a half hours from a blues perspective. Can't realistically see Berbatov coming, nor Villa tbh. Think the Robinho one's a non-starter, so unless a name from nowhere comes onto the radar, think it may be Gomez or no-one.

But frankly, Ronaldo scored 42 goals last year, which was quite a few more than Torres and was also predominantly from out wide, so I think he did a fair amount more to deserve the hype.

I actually agree with your assessment of Torres (the bolded part) and I was also one of the ones who didn't think he'd pass 15-20. But quite a lot of people think he's more than that, even outside of Liverpool fans. I've heard quite a lot of people (both media pundits and general football fans) saying he's currently the best striker in the world, and IMO he just isn't.
I think it is just that we see players in the Premier League every week which is why we rate them so highly. As you said it was the same with Van Nistelroy, Henry a few years back.

Very much an opinion (which I don't agree with) best in this country = best in the world.

Probaly the same reason a lot in this country rate Cech as the best Keeper, Ferdinand as the best defender Ronaldo as the best midfielder etc.

Haha, what a mental day. City owned by another group of billionaires, begging the question from the populace of Manchester 'Now your rich, can you either pay up or **** off out of your council house?'

Finding the whole Berbatov thing funny, never felt he's the one for United on the grounds hes a lazy **** who'll have a paddy in 6 months when he misses a game. Completely wrong attitude and at a loss why Fergie thinks he'll fit in. However, given its deadline day, he's far better than nothing, unless were sneaking in with another bid for Villa then he'll have to do.

1957: Spanish newspapers AS and Marca are both suggesting that Manchester City have made a bid of £28.4m for Real Madrid's Chelsea target Robinho. The day gets ever more ridiculous.

2023: "There are deals we're chasing and bids we've put in, I don't know how many will come to a successful resolution. It's always difficult on the last day of the window. As for Berbatov, I'd like the chance to speak to him, but I haven't been afforded that opportunity yet. We're in there trying, though."

Hehe that was pretty funny. We (Man Utd) need Berbatov, we can't survive the season with Tevez and Rooney. Campbell can't make the step up to Utd standards so easily and we can't rely on a midfielder for goals. Although I am surprised that Fergie has targetted Berbatov, he usual stays away from the moody, 10 year old girl's attitude type players.
