Mostly disagree, Argentina were pretty pumped up for the Webb Ellis Trophy. Team of the tournament I reckon.
It was nice to see a non-foundation country reach the semis &, obviously, France losing to them at home (twice) was an utter rib-tickler, but they didn't exactly further the cause of the art of rugby in so doing. The played an utterly stiffling 10-man game that made England look like a Fijian sevens team.

Good to see Elsom's ban lifted. That was a crock that he was even cited.
Agreed, surprised they managed to give him a week's suspension for it to be honest. Not so surprised than van der Linde got the ban though, he must be coming close to the title of dirtiest player in world rugby currently.

Some beautiful stuff from South Africa. Best performance by any team this year. Exactly how the All Blacks would like to play. Hope it gets rave reviews back in NZ.

We got ****ing pumped.
yup.

Could have been a different game if tuquri scored early and tahu didnt come off his man all game.

different as in we would have lost by less points.

Fair play to the Saffies, out muscled out thought and how the hell did they get the overlaps all game (was 6 on 2 alot of times). Aus v nz will be interesting, giteau needs barnes back to take off the pressure, tahu needs to learn that rugby isnt about smashing a bloke without the ball. Tuquiri needs to learn how to play rugby.

Just watched the highlights. The Beast had some game. Aussies were complete **** though, Pienaar's try was embarrassing.

You know I agree fully. It kinda irked me that people blasted England for playing 10-man rugby (which they did) and then heaped praise on Argentina for their fighting spirit. I'm not saying the criticisms of England were unfair, but it's inconsistent to say they were boring while Argentina played with passion. There wasn't anything overly beautiful about how Argentina played I felt. They used the up and under so many times, and admittedly it worked and their kick-chase was excellent (something Tiquiri should take a look at) but they played 10-man rugby more than England ever did.

I will say I liked how they played in the playoff for third. That was quite nice I must say.

As for what Perm said, well personally I thought Argentina were out on their feet by semi final time. I don't think they're used to playing seven games in a row like that. They weren't going to win the Cup... the Saffies played well and deserved it.

Actually I'd say the ABs' effort against Australia at Eden Park would be the best team performance this year though South Africa's match at Ellis Park last weekend would be a pretty close second - the fact that the game had nothing riding on it determines the order for me anyway. In saying that, a really great effort by South Africa to bounce back from two home defeats though you have to wonder what happened to the Wallabies, and what was with their own mindset.

I get the impression people 'blasted' England for that style of play because as the supposed world champs you'd expect a more expansive and entertaining style of play - or at the least, a varied one depending on the opposition. Argentina had an aweful draw with both Ireland and France, and with the ABs eliminated early, also faced the hardest of the remaining semi-final opponents. Why not play the game that suits them? They had no reputation to live up to, and actually ended up scoring some good tries anyway. Personally I didn't think their gameplan was that boring, and at least their backs still had the opportunity to shine with ball in hand - Corletto, the Contepomis and Hernandez in particular.

I don't buy that the Wallabies had nothing to play for. A bonus point victory would've meant we needed one ourselves to win the Tri-Nations, not to mention the history -- a first win at Ellis Park for 45 years (ironic winning margin), a series win in the Republic, back-to-back away victories (after losing 15 straight). Above all, it was a Test match. There's no such thing as a dead rubber in Test match rugby.

It was a soft effort.

The Boks' backs were far more impressive than ours have been for a long time.

19-0 already, this could get ugly. Hope the Samoans can get some points on the board.

Two tries shortly after the break, including one to Donald after a couple of double-rounds. 57-7 with the kick to come.
