But if both captains want to play, that should be the end of the matter IMO. The umpires aren't running around, they just have to stand there. The players could be warned of the risks involved. I suspect the groundsman has talked the umpires into making this decision because he doesn't want his precious square spoiled.

I'm all for playing at outgrounds but this doesn't do them any favours at all. Cricket has been played everywhere else in the country.
The umpires are the ones who get sued if someone gets hurt.

They declared when Klusener got his 200, the first of his career. His previous best was the 174 he made against Hussain's side at Port Elizabeth in December 1999 - I remember it well.
Glad he's bettered that ITBT - I've rarely been so badly hurt by a lower-order innings than I was with that.

Probably, given the Worcestershire situation, our match at New Road was called abandoned about a week before it was due to start
Seem to remember a Worcs game last season which was abandoned and they arranged a different date for it, but the other counties kicked up a fuss. Potentially against Kent. Unless it's the one against us that you're referring to, don't remember it being us though

If only - it was Kent the game before - had they shifted our game to Kidderminster, or indeed anywhere else, then we would all have been spared that agonising finale at The Oval :@

You boys would best write this season off as a bad job and start again next year.

Getting rid of the likes of Schofield, Ormond and Walters would be a good way to begin. And I can't help being dissatisfied with the likes of Murtaza Hussain, Collins, Jordan and Nicholson playing too, these days. How on Earth you lot offered Jade Dernbach a new deal is beyond me as well. I just hope Alex Tudor can get a place back because it was always a shame he left IMO.

And on that subject - how was it that Abdur Razzaq played that 1 game he played? Was he a replacement overseas-player? A bit unwise to sign him for such a short time what with his ICL connections.

And for next season, you could hope Butcher and Brown are fit again. As neither of them can have all that long left.

Davies' one day form has been phenomenal the last month or so. He's really coming into his own opening the innings now.

Solanki has been gunning it too, formidable opening combination.
Yes. We have a very weird situation in having 2 different openers in the One day game as we do in the 4 day games and both partnerships are probably the best in their respective division.

Looks very interesting up at Scarborough ...

Yorkshire looked to have this wrapped up this morning - when Kent lost their seventh wicket they were only about 80 ahead. But late resistance by Tredwell and Khan has left them 204 to make - and they're 30 for three.

Incidentally, if any members in the London area fancy coming along to the Pro 40 game between Surrey and Derbyshire on the 13th (weather permitting, obviously), let me know - on here will do. :)

Nice ton for Davies, still plenty of time left to build on it aswell.
Nice mockers there, he got out about three balls later. :D

Gloucester off to a flier in pursuit of 317, and Yorkshire now seven down with 77 needed! Everything depending on young Lyth who has 52.

Northants about to chase 38 to beat Glamorgan - they can't have long left to play though.

Looks as if Yorkshire are shutting up shop - not surprisingly with eight out and 50 still needed. They have the perfect man for the job in Hoggard (0* off 24 balls).

And Northants, left with only five overs to make 38, finished ten short. Gillespie and Cosker using up 29 and 20 balls respectively proved crucial. Neither is exactly an utter rabbit though.

Awesome stuff from Davies, must be in with a shout for an England spot.
I wouldnt go that far. Prior has only just come back in and will be given a good run i reckon.

Looking at Davies Pro40 innings this season.

463 runs in 6 innings at an average of 92.60. Not too shabby

74(82) vs Notts, 16(16) vs Sussex, 103(83) vs Lancashire, 59(43) vs Durham, 92(60) vs Somerset and 119(87) vs Glous today.

Its not just the high scoring but also the run rate too. If you notice he rarely hits a 6. It certainly helped that he was promoted to opener as well. He really struggled to make an impact coming in down at 6 for much of last season.

He didnt do too great in the early season one day games though. Only 1 innings of note. But if he has a good winter with the academy and then hits the same sort of form next year he's got to be next in line.
