Battle of the Australians - Mk II

The Sean

Hell of a battle this - two of the most exhilarating cricketers, and by all accounts two of the gunnest blokes, ever to walk on the a cricket field anywhere in the world. Shame either have to go out of it.

Chappell by a fraction - though by the end of Ponting's career I rather expect I'll have reversed that call.

I'll go for Ponting. Simply the most complete record and devastating run-scorer since Bradman IMO. The guy has done it just about everywhere but in India. Although, in the all-time stakes, from about 2nd to 10th there really is not much in it. I'd say Greg is in that little group as well.

nice battle but not as tough as some of the earlier ones. I am going for Greg Chappell simply because he was more stylish than ricky. In terms of class, statistics, captaincy, fielding etc they are almost equal.

England? And he's hardly played anything in Pakistan!

How has he failed to score in England? He averages 43 there. And in his one match vs. Pakistan in Pakistan he averaged 119. Against them in Sri Lanka he averaged 74 and against them in UAE he averaged 97. Overall he averages 82 against them. A pretty comprehensive record there.

Weren't you the same poster who said he had done poorly on sub-continental pitches? 8-)

Hammond? Sobers? Barrington? Hutton? Sutcliffe?

I know it's in your opinion, but the records of those chaps are pretty darn impressive my friend.
