If he had anything left Wenger would've made more of an effort to keep him. He's always been injury prone as well as suffering from a long-standing issue with migraines, so would imagine retirement or maybe a dotage back in Sweden for a season or two would be the way to go.

From what I read earlier in the week yer Irons have paid him £6m to walk away, so they must be pretty convinced he's a busted flush.
Tbh he never recaptured the form of the 01-02 season, pretty much won the league for Arsenal once Pires got injured.

Nine hours on a train. £77.50.
Tickets. £18.
Pre Match Pies. £4.
Double Whopper with Cheese. £6.29.
Seven miles walking between house/station/stadium/station/house. An hour and a quarter.

Danny Seaborne's header. Priceless.
Indeed. ****ing top day has to be said. Prouder of being part of the 604 rather then the twenty thousand, tbh. I was looking out for you, but didn't see anyone ginger.

Those pies looked rancid, made do with the lager, then ate in a pub in town after the match.

That is some trip. I have done aways up in Hartlepool, and all along the south coast such as Torquay, Bournemouth & Gillingham, but Exter-Darlington is I would imagine further than anything I've ever travelled.

Pretty much every away game must be a long way for you, Torquay & Plymouth aside?

Had an enjoyable day yesterday at the Community Shield, match wasn't great but then it never is. United winning on penalties was a fair result, possession was fairly even but they made much more of theirs than we did. Our midfield showed great tenacity and ball retention skills though, was very impressed with Diarra and Diop's performances. Carlos Tevez was a cut above for United, his movement and touch are unbelievable.

Relations with the United fans throughout the day were amusing - from our chants of "**** off back to Guildford" on the Tube, to the two chavvy twenty-something girls with ****ney accents abusing Pompey fans from the bridge over Wembley Way as we came out of Wembley Park Tube station, to the large group of Asian fellas hanging out outside the kebab shop singing - in ****ney accents - the one chant they apparently knew, to the United-supporting kids whose parents were decked out in Pompey attire, to the Chinese tourists combining a holiday in London with a trip to see their team.....it was an enlightening day. Didn't hear a Mancunian accent at any point.

Yep, it's a slightly annoying bit of going up, that there really isn't an easy trip all year. I was talking to a Notts County fan who was saying his worse trip was about 2 and a half hours on a train. That's about our best.

Darlo isn't the worse actually, because at least there's a decent train service. The likes of Morecambe and Aldershot are going to be terrible. I doubt I'll be going to many away games, tbh. Just had to go to the first league game in five years.

Plymouth derby next year, will be easy to get to......

"Manchester United in wide-ranging fan base" shock.

My trip wasn't as bad being from Oxford, but we are faced with a mighty set of journeys this year - my local one is Wycombe, on Boxing Day when I won't be here... then it's Luton, Aldershot, Barnet, Brentford and Dagenham. In slightly further range (i.e. ~2 hours) it's Bournemouth, Shrewsbury, Notts County and Chesterfield, then Vale, Macclesfield or a home match!

Hoping for some local draws in the JPT or Carling Cup (I do fancy us to do Southampton over tomorrow night - whatever someone sane would say. Not going to make the trip, though - have done Tiverton, Darlington and the Oval in the last four days, fancy some arse-time on the Sofa: Chester-Leeds is the SS1 offering).

It'd just be nice if the odd couple could tell you about Manchester itself... I did do a shirt-count on Saturday. Obviously it was Darlington 1, Exeter 2, but up there with Newcastle... guess who? Burnley were next, for some reason there was a bloke at New Street with a Clarets top on...

Chelsea won at the Oval, incidentally.

As Neil said, it'd be nice if any of them knew where Old Trafford was. Or if any of them actually sang for more than thirty seconds per match.
If they're matchgoers who you were interacting with, they probably do know where it is. Additionally, the "United fans don't sing" is a massive myth, both at OT and the away support, though I can't speak for Saturday as I wasn't there and haven't even seen any highlights other than the penalties. The fact that it was at Wembley rather than at OT or a hardcore away support probably had an impact actually.

Unless I've massively got the wrong end of the stick, he's also pointing out that it is far from United only - every club has it.

The constant snipes at United's fan base from just about everyone are irritating and tiresome. The club is so large, people from around the world are bound to support them. I don't personally agree with supporting a cub unless you actually have some link to them, which does mean I don't agree with a lot of United fans. However, this is an affliction of all clubs and yet people only go on about United.

I bet you couldn't find an Exeter City fan who didn't know the surrounding roads of St James Park, and how you get there from the City Centre/station. Admittedly for Old Trafford it is "Get off at Old Trafford Station. Walk into ground."

Also, Darlington's fans were bloody rubbish. "More noise at Histon" summed it up...

I have seen evidence that United fans sing at games. And surprisingly some people actually live in Manchester support them......Wow.........
